The food was fantastic, everything was cooked great and seasoned to perfection. Our server was very knowledgeable and interactive. One of the best meals that I've had!
Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service. Would recommend for fine dining special occasions.
Well dine at the Grande often-but our first time at SR. Service was amazing as always. The food was awful-fish overcooked, green tomatoes were burned. Wedge salad was like fast food. We quit eating after only a few bites. We dine at fantastic restaurants in Fairhope. This was a huge disappointment-especially for The Grande.
We have spent the last 4 Christmas Eves dining at Southern Roots. Of those, only 1 was what we considered to be really good and worth the high price tag. Two years ago, filet mignon was on the menu and it was amazing... the desert that year was also really good and visually stunning. Last year, the food wasn't horrible, but it wasn't delicious either. This year was the worst - the appetizer was awful, and I didn't eat but one bite. My husband had the lobster bisque and although it wasn't terrible, it wasn't delicious. The Beef Wellington was edible and that's about all I can say about that. The dessert wasn't great either... husband had the cheesecake and said it was meh. I had the yule log and the cake was so dry I barely ate any of it. We've decided that next year and every year after we're dining somewhere, anywhere, other than Southern Roots.
Our night was made more special starting with the 1847 bar and continued with our server Christian. His knowledge of the menu was a treat. This was our first visit to the Grand but certainly it our k look last.
we very much enjoyed the evening and the food. This is our go to place when we wanna enjoy a special evening. This was my choice with my lovely bride for my 70th birthday. They made some very nice vegan options for her. i had the Grilled Snapper. Cooked perfectly and the creole crawfish sauce very tasty. We plan to be back soon.
Excellent meal...lovely ambience. Our waiter Christopher was friendly and personable. Highly recommend
We fine dine pretty often. Our service was excellent but the food didn't match. The cheese board was honestly embarrassing. The cheese was nothin special, with a little fig jam and crackers I buy at the grocery store regularly. No special nuts, bread or unique cheese. Just large amounts of 3 average selections. For my main I tried their special risotto. The tomato taste was so dominant that you couldn't taste the crab and the scallops took on a strong tomato flavor also. The risotto was not cooked properly and was more like undercooked rice. Our dessert was good. The view is beautiful, the decor nice. The atmosphere spot on. They just need better dishes. I wanted to love this restaurant because we loved The Grand Hotel but I just didn't.
Food was absolutely delicious! Our server was top notch and answered any questions we had. The ambiance was above compare. Watching the sunset over Mobile Bay while dining was spectacular!
Great food, sun set, and service! Attentive, personable staff without hovering! Watching children playing on the lawn added to the enjoyment. The red snapper in remolade sauce and the seafood raviolo in addition to the seasonal desert was fabulous!
Restaurantji Recommends
Great restaurant but easily the worst dry aged steak I've ever eaten. At nearly a $100 price point....it didn't meet expectations. Not even close. The beef is as about as low grade as it gets and it's definitely NOT grass fed. I've had a better steak experience at a local chain (Ruth Chris, Outback). This is too great a hotel to have overpriced food.

This was our first time to dine at Southern Roots and we will definitely be back! We had a nice view of the bay from our table. We had the Red Snapper with asparagus which was delicious and our waiter, Dallas was attentive and knowledgeable. 5 stars for sure!!!
I have Celiac and they were able to accommodate me with gluten free items that were delicious! My husband and I had a great time!
The view from our table was beautiful and the food was fabulous. We had the Tomato Pie small plate, Mushroom Risotto, and Grilled Red Snapper. All were delicious! The best part was the exceptional service we received from our waiter, Christian!
The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars was the noise level. The food, ambiance and service was impeccable! Delicious steak, beautiful view of the Bay with an amazing sunset! This is the second time dining here and I would definitely recommend it!
