Well, it’s been many years since I’ve been up there. But there was an issue on my pet little pet dog. She was on a leash and after we ate, took her for a little walk around the building and start walking up to the front and this woman not sure who she was but she was very rude because I was walking my pet. I was kinda took back. I mean we weren’t bothering anybody matter of fact we hadn’t seen anyone but I guess this person won dog lover. She told me that we’re not supposed to have dogs anywhere on the property. I said come on you’ve got houses all around you and I don’t think there was a leash law. But that’s the last time we ever ate there didn’t mean to upset anyone, but this lady really really give it to me.

When I went, our server was extremely inattentive towards us, aside from sitting and talking to us for around 10 minutes while we ate, not doing his job I hate to be that person but my tea sat empty the majority of my meal, never got a refill. If anyone wants to go, I recommend going when the high-schoolers arent working because the service we got from them was horrendous.

The signs drew me in as I was heading for home. “Home of the Famous Catfish Dinner,” not just on the sign out front but also painted in big letters on the building. It worked and one Medium Dinner (2 pieces of fish) later, I agree with the signs. Everything was perfectly cooked in fresh tasting oil. Corn meal mix on the fish was perfect. Hush puppies were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, delicious, and NOT greasy. Overheard the wiatress saying the tea was too sweet for her, so I got half-cut tea and it was just about perfect. Even had small scrunchy ice! The building is functional, but I did not go in for atmosphere. The food was great. Would definitely stop again, and bring people with me.
I don't do catfish but the Cod dinner was very good.

It's been a year since I had their catfish dinner. I already grade them 5 stars from the past and now.....they improved their hushpuppies!!!! I give them 6 stars is possible!

In my humbled opinion, Mewbern's has the best Catfish Fillet's in Northwest Alabama. They have other items, such as hamburger's, chicken tender's, just to name a couple. But, the #1 seller, is definitely, the Catfish Fillet's.
So, if you're in the mood for food item's listed above, then go check out Mewbern's Restaurant, and I believe you will not be disappointed.

Good catfish place. I got a large catfish plate and barely finished it all.
This place has been around since I was a little kid. It can't get any better than what it is...except if they brought back the whole catfish dinners. Man...there may not have been as much meat on the whole fish as the filets, but it certainly had more flavor. Newbern's is a resturant that I hope will forever be a staple of the small town of Florence, AL.
