Pictured is my shrimp basket just as they served it. Very disappointing and the hush puppies were burned. Also I looked up menu online, and all prices were higher when I got there.
We discovered Wintzell’s a few years ago on a return trip from our daughter’s house in Atlanta. The menu included char grilled oysters. Our experience has been most people put them under the broiler as opposed to New Orleans that actually char them on a flaming grill. The taste is quite different. So imagine our delight when we were able to get authentic char, grilled oysters, just one hour away from where we live.

The food and atmosphere was excellent; there was live music the evening we visited! My wife and I split the Oyster Sampler as an appetizer and the Fried J.O. Platter as our main dish. There was plenty of food for us both. Our kids had the grilled cheese basket and fish basket. Those were also prepared very well. Definitely a restaurant to revisit.
