Southern Hospitality in America is real... we took a drive-by to Rodney Scott’s BBQ, here in Homewood, Alabama, to try our luck at 8.30am (service 11am). Looking like a couple of weirdos peering through the windows, the manager, Aaron Shoop, came out to see what we wanted. Explaining that we were from New Zealand and fans of Rodney and BBQ, we were invited in, given the full kitchen tour and then we were offered some menu items for take away (all paid for of course). Great chat with Aaron and Joel Brown about New Zealand BBQ and our trip through the states so far, and a few takeaway tips for hogg cooking and BBQ back home.Setting up a make shift picnic out the back of the SUV in the carpark - we feasted. There's only been 1 other occasion on this trip where my perspective of good BBQ flavor and texture has shifted... this was the second. Pulled whole hogg and ribs. The sauces - WOW!. Oh my! The flavor, the char, and the textures offered were excellent. So good! Mouth watering! Sides of Potato Salad and Slaw were a great addition.With full bellies, we're driving away to our next destination, I feel a sense of satisfaction that only good food can offer. I have only had the ribs, but they were outstanding. My favorite restaurant ribs have been Dreamland. I think the seasoning at Rodney Scott’s is better than Dreamland. The ribs are a little more tender at Rodney Scott’s but they are not over cooked. I really like the Other sauce - sweet and spicy. I keep thinking I need to try their pulled pork since that is what they are famous for, but I can’t pass on the ribs. I have also only had to go food, so I can’t comment on service other than at the counter. I

Everything was quite amazing pricey but to be expected and the portions were very generous. Definitely can taste the care and consideration in the food. Also, most places that have good BBQ have pitiful sides, the sides here are on par with the food and they were excellent. Catfish filets are very delicious as well.Kid-friendliness: Easy going place for kids.

Went to Trussville location right after 430, ordered two rib plates and one turkey plate. The rib plates were HORRIBLE! Looked and tasted like it was microwaved from the day before. We always went to the Avondale store but it’s closed now…really hate that, probably Won’t have Rodney Scott again?…Really disappointed after going to Avondale just about every wknd with never having Any problems.

This was some of the absolute BEST Food I’ve had in a long time!! I don’t have a complaint but I feel staff should come to your table at least to ask is the food ok or if someone needed to go boxes.

I went to lunch one day (by myself) about a month ago at the Rodney Scotts in Homewood. I think I ordered the pulled pork plate with a couple sides. All in all, I think there's better bbq in Birmingham, but the downside to me was the food was cold. I get the bun being cold, but the meat being cold was pathetic to me. Secondly, it took the food about 20 mins to get to the table...and I was after the lunch rush. Maybe 20 mins is normal, but at an off peak time, I thought that was unreasonable. The food being cold was the dagger to me. Won't be going back. Wished they hadn't closed the one in Avondale, at least the service there was friendly and wasn't staffed with rude high school kids who don't know anything about good service. Last thing. I think the plate was about $20, and with tip culture gone wild, I think I paid $23 or $24 for the whole meal. Completely disappointed. Hope others had a better experience!

Perhaps the build up caused over-expectation, but I was a little underwhelmed. The food was good, very good, but I was looking for amazing.None of the sauces were remarkable, just tasty. The whole hog pork was middle-of-the-pack of BBQ here in Birmingham.I will go back, however, so I'm not not recommending it.

This place is very nice and clean. Today was my first time trying it because I wanted some ribs. You will not be disappointed. I sat outside on the patio and ate. There was a TV on the patio to watch sports on. The service was fast and friendly. You order at the register, and they bring your food out to you. The food was really good and flavorful. The ribs were perfect. And I loved trying the variety of sauces.Parking: There is parking available in the front and back of the restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: There is wheelchair accessibility

This food is disgusting the first time I came here I got the catfish sandwich with Mac and cheese it was unbelievable salty and that white sauce was over powered by a onion taste… the second time I visited I got the catfish’s plate with potato salad and fries and turkey slider everything was so salty even the potato salad which also had a unbearable amount of onions in it ,the bbqsauce is watery and lack flavor all in all I wasted my money in this place … the best thing that was on my plate was the lemon slice
