“Came in a week or so ago and had Evelyn as our server. Service was incredible, she was always quick and attentive. Food was great, I had some burrata and I could eat them as an entree.”

“This past Saturday, I treated myself to a me date a day dedicated entirely to myself. After indulging in a relaxing one-hour massage, I found myself absolutely starving. Wanting to try something new, I continued my exploration of Homewood’s restaurant scene and landed on The Battery. I met my aunt there for lunch, and as soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was packed inside and out which is usually a great sign. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated. The interior had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions, and I never once had to ask for a refill. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was impressively quick, and every dish arrived hot. Appetizers Buffalo Wings – The wings were well-sauced and smoked to perfection, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly. However, the biggest letdown was the lack of seasoning. While the smoky flavor was great, the wings themselves needed more depth. 7.9/10 (With proper seasoning, this would easily be in the high 8s or even a 9). Queso & Chips – The chips were fresh, crunchy, and unseasoned but still did the job. The queso had potential, but it lacked the bold flavors needed to truly stand out. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been much better. 6/10 Entrées & Sides Wedge Salad – The salad itself was solid, but the bacon was a miss. It had an overpowering liquid smoke taste, leaving a strange aftertaste and smell. 7/10 Fries – These were outstanding hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of cuts and shapes. 8.5/10 Smash Burger – A well-executed smash burger with that signature crispy edge and juicy interior. However, the meat itself wasn’t seasoned, which held it back from being exceptional. 8/10 Final Thoughts Overall, The Battery was a great experience, and I’d happily return. The biggest downside was the lack of seasoning across multiple dishes. If they improved that, their food would easily score even higher. That said, I still highly recommend trying this place. Final Rating: 8/10 Service: 10/10 – Absolutely fantastic staff! Would I go back? Without a doubt.”

“We were hoping to make this our annual 4th of July family get together place but the food was lack luster at best. The brisket taco meat was bland an that is being nice. Maybe just a poor choice for me this time. The dip that comes with the chips was MILD, but had a good flavor. Which may be good for some people.”

The barbecue is consistently outstanding and their breakfast deserves just as much praise. It’s absolutely wonderful and one of our favorite spots to start the day. Recently, they faced an unexpected issue that temporarily impacted their health rating. What truly speaks to their character is how quickly and responsibly they addressed the situation. They handled it with professionalism, corrected the problem, and have since rebounded — demonstrating their commitment to quality and to their customers. In over two decades of dining here, we have never had a single bad experience. The service has always been friendly, the food consistently delicious, and the environment welcoming and comfortable. Long-standing, family-owned businesses like Demetris BBQ are special, and they deserve the community’s support — especially when they’ve proven, year after year, that they care deeply about their food and the people they serve. “I couldn’t wait to get home to give this place one star. I was under the impression by some of the pics that the fried rice came with some type of veggie like peas and carrots . Just onion and the greens onions they had to add after the fact . However, my attitude changed once I tasted the food ! I was surprised at how good it taste . Veggies were cooked very well and everything overall had a great taste . I don’t even eat the brown sauce that came with it but as I type I’m tearing it up! Lol Not my first choice for Chinese just due to personal preference (I like my veggies in my friend rice!) . Also I’m use to a larger portion size for what I paid (a little over $16 ) but this was definitely a hit ! The front lady was every patient cause I knew she could tell I was disappointed. I did not try to hide . I will be back to try some other items now that I l now what to expect ! By the way I got the house friend rice and steam veggie plate.”

“I was genuinely excited to try this restaurant after passing by it so many times while traveling through Downtown Homewood. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit of a letdown. That said, it wasn’t terrible by any means, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. A friend and I dined here together as most of my readers know, I often bring someone along for reviews to offer more than just my own perspective. Appetizer: We started with the Tallulah Wings, opting for the Sweet Heat Dry Rub with Alabama White BBQ sauce. The first surprise was that the wings arrived already coated in the sauce. In my opinion, when a sauce is meant as a dip, it’s best served on the side, not as a coating. Unfortunately, the wings themselves were quite underseasoned it reminded me of drinking a LaCroix, with just a faint whisper of the sweet heat flavor. That said, the little flavor I could taste had a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of Golden Flake potato chips and those are undeniably delicious. I just wish the wings had packed more of a punch. Entrée: Next, we tried the Social Stack, essentially their version of a McDonald's Big Mac. I have to say, it was significantly better than a Big Mac. The sauce was flavorful, the patties were fresh and well-seasoned, and everything came together beautifully. It’s a rich burger, but the crispy, seasoned fries helped balance that richness. The freshness and flavor made this burger a standout I’d absolutely order it again. If it weren’t for the disappointing wings, this meal would have earned a solid 4 out of 5 stars. As it stands, I’m giving it 3 out of 5. However, I do plan to return and explore more of their menu. I believe there’s potential here, and I’m hopeful my next visit will be a more satisfying experience.”

“There are tables but Chop Suey Inn is and has been for decades a takeaway establishment. The menu is extensive and has items most Chinese restaurants don't have. The egg rolls are a star here with tiny shrimp and bits of pork. Unlike everywhere else these egg rolls are bigger and yet still lighter, two would make a meal for some. I've eaten their food since moving here in the early 1980s and I'm pleased to say the food quality has not changed. If someone has a craving for a particular dish that's hard to find check them out, they may have it.”

I loved the little cozy, middle-of-town setting in the small strip of restaurants. The coffee was fantastic (shout out to Honest Roasters in Nashville) and the ago toast hit the spot. The have plenty of seating and tables outside as well, to enjoy a coffee outside. Well done!”

“I visited Neighbor’s today with three kids that I babysit after a trip to the park across the street. We had visited a few times before, so I recognized the man working behind the counter. He greeted us kindly and got the kids their ice creams. When it came time to pay, I went to tap and my card declined. This is where Neighbors stands out. The young man behind the counter said it was okay, and to just repay them when I returned. I definitely should have planned better and brought cash, but the kindness that he demonstrated is what makes Neighbors stay true to their name. (I did return and pay not even 20 minutes later with some cash I had in my car)”

“Our favorite bar in Bham, hands down. Taffy and Di are the best bartenders in the city! They make everyone feel welcome. The ambience is exactly what you’d want in a dive bar. If you’re in the Homewood area, this funky little dive is an absolute can’t miss! Make sure to bring some dollar bills for the jukebox when you stop by!”

“Okay as someone who LOVES acai bowls and have had them at multiple different places in different cities, I must admit that Farm Bowl and Juice Company has the best and cutest açaí bowls I've ever had! I've been twice so far since the opening and it taste amazing, I wish I could afford to eat it every single day! I love the atmosphere as well. I normally go to other juice bars and açaí places in Tuscaloosa, but Farm Bowls is so much closer to my home. So between it being close to home, the best açaí bowls ever, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere, I am SOLD!”

Very tender greens seasoned with light garlic sauce. Love loved the greens. I also ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. Very tasty lightly spiced with, peanuts, mushrooms and zucchini in a light sauce. All Came with 2 orders of steamed rice and was packaged to go, as I was traveling back to MS. I enjoyed a chicken egg roll that was fresh and filled with lots of chicken in a crispy roll and was hot. Could have ate a second one. Everything was remarkably delicious and the young lady who took my order was patient and explained the different dishes. This was my second time to order from Mr. Chen’s. I dined in the first time. The Restaurant is tastefully decorated and is uniquely located inside the Homewood Chinese Grocery Store. Next time I go to Birmingham I want to purchase some of the produce and other items that appeared fresh and healthy from the store, which had an abundance and variety of items not found in your typical grocery store. Well worth making a stop.”

“That strawberry hibiscus drink from Chick-fil-A really is good. It has that refreshing fruity taste without being too heavy or overly sweet. Especially cold on a hot day, it hits different. The strawberry flavor mixed with the hibiscus gives it that smooth little tang to it.

A lot of people sleep on their seasonal drinks because everybody goes straight for the lemonade or sweet tea, but some of those specialty drinks are actually the best thing on the menu.”

“The Edge worked with our class to hold a great, casual high school reunion meetup without the added fees and charges others wanted. There is a good variety of food and drink vendors and the venue is laid out to bring people together in a relaxed setting with lots of tables, both sheltered under fans and open-air in the sun.

During our reunion, their large outdoor video screen was showing the World Cup and College World Series for other patrons who came to watch those events.

We especially recommend Corbeau Wine Bar; their owner and friendly staff went the extra mile to help our class virtually take over their cool bar as our reunion base. Good food (including fresh flatbreads!) and a large selection of wines. There’s also beer and frozen drinks.
