“This past Saturday, I treated myself to a me date a day dedicated entirely to myself. After indulging in a relaxing one-hour massage, I found myself absolutely starving. Wanting to try something new, I continued my exploration of Homewood’s restaurant scene and landed on The Battery. I met my aunt there for lunch, and as soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was packed inside and out which is usually a great sign. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated. The interior had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions, and I never once had to ask for a refill. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was impressively quick, and every dish arrived hot. Appetizers Buffalo Wings – The wings were well-sauced and smoked to perfection, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly. However, the biggest letdown was the lack of seasoning. While the smoky flavor was great, the wings themselves needed more depth. 7.9/10 (With proper seasoning, this would easily be in the high 8s or even a 9). Queso & Chips – The chips were fresh, crunchy, and unseasoned but still did the job. The queso had potential, but it lacked the bold flavors needed to truly stand out. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been much better. 6/10 Entrées & Sides Wedge Salad – The salad itself was solid, but the bacon was a miss. It had an overpowering liquid smoke taste, leaving a strange aftertaste and smell. 7/10 Fries – These were outstanding hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of cuts and shapes. 8.5/10 Smash Burger – A well-executed smash burger with that signature crispy edge and juicy interior. However, the meat itself wasn’t seasoned, which held it back from being exceptional. 8/10 Final Thoughts Overall, The Battery was a great experience, and I’d happily return. The biggest downside was the lack of seasoning across multiple dishes. If they improved that, their food would easily score even higher. That said, I still highly recommend trying this place. Final Rating: 8/10 Service: 10/10 – Absolutely fantastic staff! Would I go back? Without a doubt.”

“I was genuinely excited to try this restaurant after passing by it so many times while traveling through Downtown Homewood. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit of a letdown. That said, it wasn’t terrible by any means, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. A friend and I dined here together as most of my readers know, I often bring someone along for reviews to offer more than just my own perspective. Appetizer: We started with the Tallulah Wings, opting for the Sweet Heat Dry Rub with Alabama White BBQ sauce. The first surprise was that the wings arrived already coated in the sauce. In my opinion, when a sauce is meant as a dip, it’s best served on the side, not as a coating. Unfortunately, the wings themselves were quite underseasoned it reminded me of drinking a LaCroix, with just a faint whisper of the sweet heat flavor. That said, the little flavor I could taste had a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of Golden Flake potato chips and those are undeniably delicious. I just wish the wings had packed more of a punch. Entrée: Next, we tried the Social Stack, essentially their version of a McDonald's Big Mac. I have to say, it was significantly better than a Big Mac. The sauce was flavorful, the patties were fresh and well-seasoned, and everything came together beautifully. It’s a rich burger, but the crispy, seasoned fries helped balance that richness. The freshness and flavor made this burger a standout I’d absolutely order it again. If it weren’t for the disappointing wings, this meal would have earned a solid 4 out of 5 stars. As it stands, I’m giving it 3 out of 5. However, I do plan to return and explore more of their menu. I believe there’s potential here, and I’m hopeful my next visit will be a more satisfying experience.”

I really think Linda could teach a course on how to run a business. As a vegetarian, they have delicious options. Our son and daughter who are not vegetarian both love the angel roll! Recently, they faced an unexpected issue that temporarily impacted their health rating. What truly speaks to their character is how quickly and responsibly they addressed the situation. They handled it with professionalism, corrected the problem, and have since rebounded — demonstrating their commitment to quality and to their customers. In over two decades of dining here, we have never had a single bad experience. The service has always been friendly, the food consistently delicious, and the environment welcoming and comfortable. Long-standing, family-owned businesses like Demetris BBQ are special, and they deserve the community’s support — especially when they’ve proven, year after year, that they care deeply about their food and the people they serve. “Our favorite bar in Bham, hands down. Taffy and Di are the best bartenders in the city! They make everyone feel welcome. The ambience is exactly what you’d want in a dive bar. If you’re in the Homewood area, this funky little dive is an absolute can’t miss! Make sure to bring some dollar bills for the jukebox when you stop by!”

“Came in for a bagel and an oat milk latte. The staff was nice and the service was quick. I didn't get any utensils to spread my cream cheese, and I asked for it extra toasted and it was very lightly toasted. Still decent. The coffee was very good but nothing special. Kinda pricey for just a bagel and a latte, though not necessarily overpriced, just too of the range. Also, they don't post prices anywhere so the cost was quite a surprise. I wasn't too worried about it and I still tipped well, but I just think they could do better with that.

It was very cold in the store, but they have outside seating, which I enjoyed. Cute enough spot.

“What a great spot! The juices, smoothies, almond butter toast, poke bowl and chicken quesadilla were all delicious! My entire family (5 & 8 year old) both loved their meals, along with my husband and I. The staff was so accommodating and helpful, and just went the extra mile to make sure my one daughter was happy. Thank you! Highly recommend for anyone wanting good food that is made with clean ingredients!”

“Food is always delicious and fresh! I love the Powerhouse bowl and the avocado toast, their iced coffee is also delicious (I recommend the Roosevelt, which is honey and cinnamon flavored syrup). I always get it doordashed but everything tastes just as good and fresh as it does picking it up. Would definitely recommend!”

“A nice welcome addition to the ice cream scene around Birmingham! We went here on a Sunday night for a treat after dinner. The menu is great, ingredients are high quality. The soft serve comes in a cup, or two cone sizes (low top or high top). We opened for a high top cone and a sundae in a cup. Pricing is about what you would expect for a trendier ice cream place, ~$8-10 pp. They have a rotating flavor / feature sundae which I think is creative. There’s definitely something on the menu for everyone, from plain cones to BYO concoctions.

I am giving 4 stars only because of the building layout- it is deceptively small on the inside, so plan on taking your ice cream to go and eating it outside. The door also opens awkwardly from the inside, which created a jam with the people waiting inside and those standing in line outside.”

“After visiting the ACE hardware in Homewood, we decided to stop here for dinner. There was a good crowd and Bingo trivia going on. Our waitress Mercedes was great and took our drink and food order. There are 8 draft taps for a fair selection to choose from. We placed an order of a basket of onion rings for an appetizer. This appetizer could have used another horsey sauce as one does not cover the size of the basket of onion rings and could easily be shared by three people. I ordered wings with Jamaican jerk w/ mango - habanero sauce and there are 10 wings even though the menu did not indicate how many. It was a dry rub and I could not taste the mango nor was there much of a kick from the habanero. Overall, the wings were grilled and all right. The grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough was good and probably a kid favorite. There are plenty of games to keep the kids busy and a family friendly restaurant. There is outside seating. The parking is limited out front due to the other restaurant El Barrio being next door. There is public park down the street, not far from the restaurants.”

“My wife grew up in the Birmingham area and swore this was the best chinese food restaurant ever. We actually live in the Atlanta area now, but every chance we get we travel from the west side of the Atlanta area just to purchase chinese food from this restaurant. I was in the Birmingham area today and I stopped by to purchase a meal before I return back to Atlanta. The portion are vary generous 😇 it not a bad meal 😋 on the menu. They are famous for their handmade egg rolls oversize. I purchased six egg rolls, pepper steak, beef and broccoli, and shrimp fried rice. For my wife I purchased Mongolian and chicken, and sautéed broccoli in brown sauce 😋 each meal we also purchased a small portion of fried rice four each! Once again if you're ever in the Birmingham area this restaurant is a must stop by and get. They are now allowing you to dine in and eat as well 😋”

“We recently hosted my daughter’s birthday party at Neighbors. We cannot stop raving about our experience! It was hands down the easiest birthday party we have ever experienced. The staff at Neighbors took care of everything! The shop was decorated with balloons, party favors made, and the tables were set with paper and crayons. They played a slide show of my child and got to pick out the playlist. We walked into a fully set up party and a happy and accommodating staff! The kids and parents raved about the experience. They were SO accommodating when it came to unexpected siblings tagging along by letting us have the options of additional party favors and having a tab open for extra ice cream. After the party, the staff took care of all the clean up leaving us feeling like we just got the red carpet treatment. If you have a party coming up I strongly encourage you to check out their events page on their website. I will be recommending them to everyone. We have hosted so many kids parties. This was by far our favorite (and easiest) one!”

I've been twice so far since the opening and it taste amazing, I wish I could afford to eat it every single day! I love the atmosphere as well. I normally go to other juice bars and açaí places in Tuscaloosa, but Farm Bowls is so much closer to my home. So between it being close to home, the best açaí bowls ever, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere, I am SOLD!”

“I had the most incredible experience with Savage’s Bakery in Homewood, AL I recently picked up a birthday cake that I had ordered and put it inside my car in the floorboard. My dog got so excited and jumped on top of the cake box and completely demolished it. After taking it back into Savage’s to see if they could repair it, they looked at it and said, give us a few minutes, we’ll take care of it. Within 20 minutes they texted me and said it was as good as new. Not only did they fix my beautiful cake, they wouldn’t let me pay or tip them for everything they did. Such amazing people that work at Savage’s! I will always remember such kindness!!! They are the BEST bakery ever!!!!!!”

“Loved the cheeseburger here. My husband got the cheeseburger topped with a fried egg and he said it was delicious. I had the regular cheeseburger which was perfect. Portion size was good. We had a side of fries that were hot, crispy and a generous portion.
We went at 2 pm and there was no waiting. My only complaint was it was outside eatting only and it was very warm even with the fans. Staff super friendly and they made recommendations that were appreciated. We will definitely be back.

“The Edge worked with our class to hold a great, casual high school reunion meetup without the added fees and charges others wanted. There is a good variety of food and drink vendors and the venue is laid out to bring people together in a relaxed setting with lots of tables, both sheltered under fans and open-air in the sun.

During our reunion, their large outdoor video screen was showing the World Cup and College World Series for other patrons who came to watch those events.

We especially recommend Corbeau Wine Bar; their owner and friendly staff went the extra mile to help our class virtually take over their cool bar as our reunion base. Good food (including fresh flatbreads!) and a large selection of wines. There’s also beer and frozen drinks.

“Excellent Chinese Food. Fresh and seasoned appropriately. I ordered a half roasted duck which was so tender and plated beautifully. I also tried the sweet pea leaves. Very tender greens seasoned with light garlic sauce. Love loved the greens. I also ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. Very tasty lightly spiced with, peanuts, mushrooms and zucchini in a light sauce. All Came with 2 orders of steamed rice and was packaged to go, as I was traveling back to MS. I enjoyed a chicken egg roll that was fresh and filled with lots of chicken in a crispy roll and was hot. Could have ate a second one. Everything was remarkably delicious and the young lady who took my order was patient and explained the different dishes. This was my second time to order from Mr. Chen’s. I dined in the first time. The Restaurant is tastefully decorated and is uniquely located inside the Homewood Chinese Grocery Store. Next time I go to Birmingham I want to purchase some of the produce and other items that appeared fresh and healthy from the store, which had an abundance and variety of items not found in your typical grocery store. Well worth making a stop.”
