“We arrived about 8:40 and they close at 9:30. They were already dead and I thought they might have been closed actually. I picked this location because of the reviews, pictures, and menu. But, when we got there there were no hibachi grills and we almost left because of it. We did decide to stay and eat. We ordered two hibachi chicken meals with no vegetables and double rice and got a side order of hibachi noodles to split. The soup and salad came out first and the soup was very good but fairly different than most hibachi places, it tasted more beef based and had a little tang almost like spicy. The salad dressing was awful. When our food came out I instantly noticed the portions were smaller than most actual hibachi restaurants. The chicken was decent but didn’t have the texture of chicken when cooked on the hibachi grills and didn’t have nearly enough teriyaki on it. The rice was ok but had a weird smoky flavor. The noodles were actually really good. Service was kind of awful but I figure it’s because it was so late and it seems as though they get mostly to go orders later in the evening so they didn’t really wanna deal with a dine in customer ??♀️ it wasn’t the worst hibachi place I’ve been to but it was no where near the best. I probably wouldn’t come back unless we just absolutely can not find a real hibachi place around this side of town that tastes good too.“
“The atmosphere was great, the dumplings appetizers were delicious. The main course was a disappointment to say the least. The whole fish was fried good, but no seasoning at all, the sides that come with it is a -0 for me. WHY, serve this beautiful whole fish with a huge wedge of RAW cabbage, plain big wedges of tomatoes, plain thick slices of cucumbers, cooked white plain rice, and a tomatoe chutney which was very tasty. The sides served with this $27 dish is not a compliment to the entrée at all. The dumplings saved the day!!“
“I thought the place was great. Everything about it. The bowls were definitely yummyyyyyy!!! It was my first time going so I had to learn the process and what to do. My waiter explained very well to me what to do. And the food was so so so so good! You definitely will be seeing me again real soon and my fam cuz I’ve told them all about it and they wanna go to so!!!! I have nothing to complain about my visit and especially my bowl!!! Y’all are awesome! Thank y’all“
“UPDATE 2/18/24: I've been to Umami at least 20 times since my first review, and have never had a meal I consider less than excellent. The sushi is creative and tasty, the ramen is very good and service is consistently fast and friendly. I've had lots of dishes and the food does not disappoint. The cocktails are very good too. One of our favorite restaurants, and I'm so happy they're open in Trussville too. Enthusiastically recommend! ?????Very tasty sushi. Eclectic menu; we really liked everything we tasted. Service was very good too.“
“One or THE best Thai in Birmingham. Quality and taste are excellent. This place is always consistent, so no matter when you dine here, you won't be disappointed. Staff are friendly and place is very clean. Portions and prices are fair. Highly recommend this place so give this place a try and you won't be disappointed. Review is for Thai cuisine, not Japanese cuisine.“
“Absolutely LOVE this place! The owners are so incredibly nice and the sushi/hibachi is probably the best I've ever had! I cannot say enough great things about this place! We have been here a couple time already and can't wait to go back!“
“The atmosphere is very welcoming along with the people. Our server Tabi was the sweetest person and was very proficient in being informative and helpful with the menu and the plethora of options. Will look forward to Blue grill and their delicious food in the near future!Ordered: Unami express and San Marco rolls“
“Moved to the area not long ago from Nashville. We were concerned about finding a good sushi place and have tried several around Hoover with not finding the right place yet. Tonight we decided to try Unagi and we are so glad we did! Edamame was fresh, wife had the Hometown Roll and I had the Big Al with Soypaper. They were both delish! Service was just as good. Also had the house ginger salad to round out an overall GREAT experience and meal! We will be back for sure and the bonus is living withing 2 mins. Thanks for a great experience!“
“This hidden gem nestled away in Mountain Brook hit every check on the list. The atmosphere, service, drinks and food is unmatched. Abhi has the best sushi and MoMo's in the city....no the State! I can't wait to try their other dishes, they smelled amazing coming out! I will definitely be back!“
“Dinner date with my SOYmate! My wife & I had a fantastic date night at Chuck's Fish. This Chuck's Fish is located on 280, but there are 5 other locations across Alabama, Georgia & Florida. They specialize in fresh seafood & sushi. We started with the Kimchi Brussels served flash-fried with bacon & cilantro aioli. I'm such a fan girl for good Brussels & these were PHENOMENAL! Brussels sprouts have that earthy, almost nutty flavor which paired incredibly well with the tangy umami of the kimchi. They were perfectly crisp on the outside while nice & tender inside. The bacon also played a huge part in this dish. These were no bacon bits, rather generous strips of real bacon. It has been a few years since we last dined at Chuck's Fish. The last time we dined here, we tried dishes from their dinner menu as well as their sushi menu & decided sushi is definitely the move here for us. Last night, we ordered Salmon Nigiri, the Meatloaf Roll featuring yellowtail, green onion, spicy sauce & tempura topped with avocado & tuna tartare as well as the Red Dragon Roll featuring soft shell crab, smelt roe, green onion & spicy sauce topped with tuna & avocado. The Salmon Nigiri was super fresh & had the perfect rice to fish ratio. We both thoroughly enjoyed the Meatloaf Roll & the Red Dragon Roll, but the Red Dragon Roll had the slight edge, for me. The combination of sweet soft shell crab, the pop of the smelt roe, firmness of the tuna & creaminess of the avocado was delightful. I really dig the atmosphere at Chuck's Fish. It's upscale & modern, but not pretentious. Service was friendly. They have a nice selection of spirits, wine, beer & specialty cocktails. I was pleased with my Pomegranate Martini as was my wife with her Maple Pecan Old Fashioned. They also offer Happy Hour daily featuring 1/2 off select drinks at the bar from 5-6pm. Chuck's is fabulous. The best sushi in the 280/Greystone area, imo.“
“Best Thai in the area, if you ask my girlfriend and I. Massaman (namesake) Curry is the jam. It’s thicc and they don’t skimp on it. Crab Angels are an amazing app that comes in excellent Panang Curry. Not exactly a romantic date atmosphere, just a simple walk-up diner style place, but EXCELLENT Thai.“
“Probably the best kept secret of this area. Their sushi is always soo fresh, but don't skip out on the hot food. The salmon bowl and gyoza or crab rangoons is my go to order. Don't worry if you have picky eaters either, you'll be stealing the chicken nuggets & fries off their plate. They're THAT good!“
“The service was amazing. We didn't realize it was close to closing, but we never felt rushed. The server was friendly and attentive. I wish I could remember his name but it was a tall guy with facial hair. The food was great and the coconut soup with shrimp was delicious. My first time ever having it and I loved it.“
“I’ve been going to O’Sushi almost weekly for a couple years and never took the time to leave a review until now. If you love raw tuna rolls and yum yum sauce, theirs is personally my favorite and the best of all the other sushi restaurants around Hoover. I order the same dishes frequently (Roll Tide Roll and the Fantasy Island) and each time I go they present the dish beautifully, and a little differently each time. Today I got the Fantasy Island and the Sushi Chef presented it in the shape of what looks like a crab haha (At least that’s what I saw). They are kind of tucked away so they were one of the last sushi places I tried since moving to Birmingham and it’s a shame. Don’t let the small outside presence fool you, their quality is above par in comparison to the other sushi restaurants around the area! Also pictured below is the Roll Tide Roll ??“
“"My son and some friends recently went to Bamboo on 2nd, and it was a fantastic experience. The service was great—friendly and efficient. The sushi was absolutely delicious, and they are already looking forward to returning to try more. The ramen bowl had a flavorful broth that added to its overall deliciousness. The service was quick, and the waitstaff were knowledgeable and helpful in selecting our food.Additionally, the To go counters impressed me with their amazing quality. Whether dining in or taking out, Bamboo on 2nd is a top-notch choice for delicious sushi and flavorful dishes. Highly recommend“
“I pulled a non-Karen today and asked for the manager. I explained to her how amazed I was at their food and how utterly fantastic it is. I ordered an unagi poke bowl and a salmon Maki roll via GrubHub, then I went there in person and ordered the unagidon and salmon roll, and today I ordered the steak teppanyaki, salad, seaweed salad (OMG - seriously? BEST I'VE EVER HAD), and got the tonkotsu ramen with menma. She remembered me from my order today and when I was there last week. Let's talk about the salmon roll - absolutely fresh and filled with thick pieces of salmon and perfectly cooked sushi rice. The rice was a compliment rather than the main to the roll. The steak? Chef's kiss. perfectly seasoned and tender with amazing veggies. Serving size? Goodness, well deserved of the price. The seaweed salad? OMG. usually, I'll get a teensy bit for the same price. Here, you get a good chunk of it but it's served over romaine lettuce with chopped cucumbers. It's definitely a true salad. Now, let's talk about the tonkotsu. The chasu pork is seared perfectly and absolutely delectable. It's also served with green onions, an excellent half of a shoyu egg, and I added menma (bamboo shoots). The broth is excellent and you can tell it has been carefully taken care of (a tad garlicky, but that's fine with me), silky, and says "I'm your comfort food" over and over again. Lastly, the service shows how much they care about their food and their customers. Like I said, I pulled a Non-Karen and spoke to the manager and sang praises for their food and service. I now have my favorite Japanese spot now that I'm back in Birmingham. PS. their unagidon is on fire! Yum!“
“12/2/2022 my wife and i went for lunch and both the food and service were top notch. our server kris was fantastic, very helpful and attentive and answered all our questions. the coconut tofu soup, crab wontons, beef noodle bowl, fried catfish, and peanut butter pie were all delicious. we went to the downtown tuscaloosa surin frequently, so we're pretty familiar with the menu and the 280 location was far superior in every way. we'll be back soon.“
“Update-Thank you Treasha for reaching and looking into this. 3/25/24.My coworkers and I order takeout which two of my coworkers were able to order online. For some reason my order wouldn’t go through online so we called it in. The food was good but my problem is the person who rung up the order decided to add themselves a tip which I wasn’t aware until it posted on my account. I was also charged a takeout fee which my coworkers weren’t charged. Never again will I order from this location.“
“Absolutely the greatest food in Birmingham!!!!! A must amount must!!!!! It taste it looks like there's no way something this complex would make sense. And it never will. They pulled off greatness from what literally seems like they threw darts at a globe and made the menu. Absolutely my favorite spot will always comeback again!!!!!“
“When I saw this place was reopening, I actually screamed.Food is amazing, portions are big, and prices are great. They seriously have top tier teryaki chicken + shrimp, best yum yum sauce I've had in Birmingham, and amazing lo mein. I haven't had anything that isn't amazing. 10/10. Can't wait to have my bi-weekly Ooka takeout nights back!“
“My family decided to try this place out based on the reviews we seen online. I will say the service was good, the restaurant is clean, the food had plenty of options to choose from like fried soft shell crabs, crawfish, fried chicken, hibachi, beef ribs, fresh sushi, fried shrimp, rice, lo mein, fresh fruit, the dessert options are limited or not as tasteful.“
“We tried their ramen here for lunch and both of our ramens were so good! Our waitress was attentive. The food came out quickly as well as the check at the end. The ramen was $15 per soup and it was well worth it. We might be back for dinner :“
“Absolutely incredible. Such a wonderful experience and delicious food.Posting pictures that give do no justice to the flavor and appearance of the food. The food coupled with the service make this place a no brainer when wanting sushi and unique food options with an Asian flare.Vegetarian options: Pescatarian and vegetarian options abound.“
“This is a great Japanese restaurant on Hwy 280. The service is some of the best in town and everything we’ve tried on the menu has been delish!! Tonight we visited after not eating here for months and they remembered our order, our preferences, even our favorite table. We had the filet mignon and shrimp with mixed vegetables, noodles, and fried rice. The meal came with a salad with ginger dressing and a bowl of miso soup and we added an order or edamame. Perfect meal, attentive service, and reasonably priced!Kid-friendliness: Kids love this place and especially for birthdays! They have a big gong they ring and they sing and serve the birthday visitor a sparkler in a dessert.“
“Went here tonight with a couple friends and the food and service was terrible. Our waiter was very rude after we mentioned our food tasting funny.. the waiters comment was “have y’all ever eaten here before” Very disappointed to only be told sorry and charged $25 for my food that only a bite was ate. Very disappointed to say the least.“
“Just tried Ryu out with my boss. We were both so impressed! The sushi chef and server could literally not have been friendlier. I loved that they both seemed to really love being there which is so great for your dining experience. The menu was extensive with a lot of both the classic rolls you expect as well as some fun new and interesting rolls.“
“Absolutely some of the best sushi I have ever had in my life! The waitress was lovely but the person who seated us was not, so 3/5 for customer service.Interior of the restaurant is simple, but the menu is elaborate! The sushi really was incredible at a reasonable price!“
