“I needed something last minute for a coworker’s birthday. I was undecided about what to pick because it would be shared with a group of people. I called the store to get some quick clarification and to ask about delivery and had a conversation with a wonderful associate. She was kind, funny, and informative. I was all set and placed my order for “bundlets with birthday hats” for delivery thinking I would be there when the cakes arrived with my own Birthday Card to go with the cakes, but I got delayed! I called last minute the next morning to see if they could add a personalized card to my order and talked to another associate who kindly took the information and made sure it was with the delivery. All I can say is that after taking a bite of the apple danish I wanted to go back and get 5 more. The danish was so buttery and the cheese and apple filling complimented the danish perfectly. “Rickey J's Bakery is sooooo good! Had to get a cake for a birthday party recently and went to Edgar's & got a few cupcakes to sample before making a decision. Let's just say I was underwhelmed. I even considered going to a grocery store, but did some online research for a good local bakery and saw reviews for Rickey J's. The reviewers are spot on. Again, I got cupcakes to sample, and the owner/baker was so nice & helpful. She even gave me a free slice of cake to help me decide. “I am new to the area and saw this place today. They had slices of pound cake and mini pies. They might have had other items too but I only noticed these, they captured my attention right away. I purchased a mini sweet potato pie, key lime, and a pecan. I also purchased a slice of lemon pound cake. My 12 year old announced she didn’t like pound cake or pie… A couple of hours later I tried the sweet potato pie. The 12 year old asked for a taste and begged to have the rest. Tonight we equally ate the lemon pound cake. Both superb. We haven’t tried the other 2 minis yet, but have no doubt they will be equally delicious. This place had the most delicious sweet potato pie and even better than my own (really good) lemon pound cake. Prices are reasonable and they have fantastic employees.“

“This little gem of a place is baking another level of deliciousness! I first received a tin of scones a few years ago as a Christmas gift. They were amazing and I was hooked. I started to order them as gifts and always receive rave reviews on how wonderful they are. So many different flavors that it makes it difficult to narrow down what to get. I went to a couple of other places that made doughnuts and they scoffed when I asked for the order. I then went to Magic Muffins- they were SO accommodating. Now- gentlemen-there will be predominantly women when you walk in but to no avail- there are plenty of things on the menu to choose from if you want something a little heavier than a chicken or turkey sandwich. Olexa is a bakery known for their delicious cake, but the lunch menu is predominantly, soup, salad, sandwiches and a couple of crepe options. What I love is the trio- 1/2 sandwich, cup of soup and choice of salad. I have had both the tomato basil and chicken chili and both are delicious. They have several side salads and I particularly like the Caesar. My lunch partners like the garden salad. The turkey crunch sandwich is good, the steak salad very good and I will try the crepes next. Warm chocolate cake with ice cream or the vanilla buttercream cake room temp are my favorites and the perfect finish to the trio lunch. Usually crowded with a 10 minute wait- service efficient, staff polite and food consistently good.“

As I was about to walk out a young man, later discovered to be the owners son, smiled so kindly and offered me a piece of lemon pound cake, there's no way he knew it is my favorite pound cake. I am the Sheriff in Blount County Alabama and was in uniform and he handed me the cake he thanked me for what I do and told me to be safe. It was as if God knew I needed a little piece of cake and a kind hearted smile to bring me some peace.
