“Excellent Chinese Food. Fresh and seasoned appropriately. I ordered a half roasted duck which was so tender and plated beautifully. I also tried the sweet pea leaves. Very tender greens seasoned with light garlic sauce. Love loved the greens. I also ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. Very tasty lightly spiced with, peanuts, mushrooms and zucchini in a light sauce. All Came with 2 orders of steamed rice and was packaged to go, as I was traveling back to MS. I enjoyed a chicken egg roll that was fresh and filled with lots of chicken in a crispy roll and was hot. Could have ate a second one. Everything was remarkably delicious and the young lady who took my order was patient and explained the different dishes. This was my second time to order from Mr. Chen’s. I dined in the first time. The Restaurant is tastefully decorated and is uniquely located inside the Homewood Chinese Grocery Store. Next time I go to Birmingham I want to purchase some of the produce and other items that appeared fresh and healthy from the store, which had an abundance and variety of items not found in your typical grocery store. Well worth making a stop.“

“Cannot say enough about the great service and delicious food. They have gone above and beyond in their service on more than one occasion. And the food is the best Chinese around. We've gotten buffet, dine in and take out and have always had delicious food.“

“I couldn’t wait to get home to give this place one star. I was under the impression by some of the pics that the fried rice came with some type of veggie like peas and carrots . Just onion and the greens onions they had to add after the fact . However, my attitude changed once I tasted the food ! I was surprised at how good it taste . Veggies were cooked very well and everything overall had a great taste . I don’t even eat the brown sauce that came with it but as I type I’m tearing it up! Lol Not my first choice for Chinese just due to personal preference (I like my veggies in my friend rice!) . Also I’m use to a larger portion size for what I paid (a little over $16 ) but this was definitely a hit ! The front lady was every patient cause I knew she could tell I was disappointed. I did not try to hide . I will be back to try some other items now that I l now what to expect ! By the way I got the house friend rice and steam veggie plate.“

“I got general tso chicken and it was very good. My only complaint is that they outer watercress in it instead of broccoli, which I found to be a very unpleasant flavor and texture combination so I had to remove them. If they shifted to broccoli it would have been perfect“

“Absolutely the best food I’ve had Great quality, staff friendly and beautiful decor. The owner says the restaurant has been there 49 years and he says they have many regulars that come there to eat. We just accidentally ended up here by googling .. this is our new favorite place when in town.“

“The food taste great. But hot and sour soup seafood for two had two shrimp. That’s it for the seafood hot and sour soup, dinner menu. The dumplings are delicious but the most tiny container of sauce, for eight dumplings! Feeling a little cranky. Never a question of flavor, it’s the best.“

“Starting, been to this place 4 times now since it opened in February of this year.
The food is great and the portion sizes are very generous, but the prices are too low. Lol.
Two entries, noodles and large soup cost about $15! Not bad at all. My only gripe would be that the food is too salty, especially the sweet & sour soup. This is coming from a guy who salts all his food, but it’s too much even for me. I’ll give them 7.5 out of 10 dumplings, would give them 8.8 if they cut 40% less salt in their food.“

“I really love Chen Express, especially for their delivery. We're extremely wary of most other delivery places or delivery services, but never have any issue whatsoever with Chen. The food is packaged extremely well and it always arrives hot. The actual delivery is always extremely polite, respectful, and surprisingly fast. It's just a fantastic restaurant to have as an option for good quick service. Thank you!“

“Just moved here, & I'm so thankful I found this hidden gem! I looked up over 20 places, & I didn't see what I wanted on the menu I'm so thankful I called in and asked if they have Tofu & they did! I made my own Tofu with broccoli, & fried rice with only egg/onion. They have the best prices affordable prices in Hoover! This will be my only to go spot for Chinese food. It's well worth the drive in a very beautiful neighborhood to the plaza. One of my favorite things is the crispy noodles 🤤 they make there's fresh next time I'm getting 10 bags because one wasn't enough. I will be getting food here weekly very generous with the portions almost enough for 3 meals. I highly recommend everyone try this spot, & if you don't see something on there menu just call & ask. Hidden gem thank you so much for the wonderful food.“

“I had one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time at P.F. Chang’s, and it was entirely because of my server, Erin. I was dining alone, and she made what could have been a simple meal feel genuinely special from start to finish.
From the moment I sat down, Erin was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive in a way that felt natural—not forced or over the top. She has a rare ability to read the table perfectly. She checked in at just the right moments, anticipated what I needed before I even had to ask, and made thoughtful recommendations that were spot-on. Everything felt seamless.
What really stood out to me was how comfortable she made me feel dining alone. That’s not something every server does well, but Erin created such an easy, relaxed atmosphere that I never once felt out of place. She treated me with the same level of care and attention you’d expect for a large party or special occasion, which says a lot about her professionalism and character.
Beyond being attentive, she brought such a positive, genuine energy to the entire experience. You can tell she truly cares about her guests and takes pride in what she does—it shows in every interaction. It’s rare to come across service that feels this thoughtful and effortless at the same time.
Erin is an absolute standout and a huge asset to this location. Experiences like this are the reason people come back, and I will absolutely be returning—specifically hoping to be in her section again.
Thank you, Erin, for turning a simple solo dinner into something memorable.“

“We ordered here on DoorDash last week and it was amazing. Honey chicken delivered and still crispy, Mongolian combo was perfectly sweet and savory. Beef was tender.
Here it is 3 days later and we went by to get take out.
Glad to find this neighborhood takeout.“

“Food was good. Family enjoyed. They even had pizza, fries, chicken wings, and fish for the kids. If there taste buds aren't ready for the great variety of foods on the buffet. The buffet, also includes the Hibachi grill-to -order, food selection if you choose.“

“Don’t focus on the 2 stars for atmosphere, unless you’d rather pay for ambience than for good food. The thing that first hooked me on Yoe Express was their coconut soup. Even on that visit I noticed the good price for their lunch specials (which appear to be available at other times as well). So on my next visit I decided to try the black pepper chicken. It was really good, AND the portions of the chicken and the fried rice were large enough that I ate half and took the rest home for dinner. I’ll be back again and again to try the other dishes. Back to the prices - with meal prices going up and up at other restaurants I go to, it’s nice to see Yoe not following suit. You can still get a generous meal of good food for a reasonable price. If you live in Homewood, you owe it to yourself, and to the good folks at Yoe Express, to support this establishment. If you don’t live in Homewood, get in the car and drive there to check it out; it won’t be your last time.“

“I usually eat here sir by a pleasant waitress, but this last time we were seated in the area the female waitress was snappy mean grouc😖hy, raise a voice🔥🌋 not friendly at all, and when I mentioned it to the male hostess, seated us, he reply, you can sit wherever you want to then.. after seated in the next area the waitress barely wanted to talk to us, we had to call her over to our table each time. 🌆 I then lost my appetite!!We will not be going back!!🔥🌋🌋!!!!👎👎👎👎👎😵💫😈“

“My son and I are in town for a baseball tournament and stayed around the corner from Eating Time. We noticed it yesterday after eating at the burger place next door. We wanted something different today so we stopped in after reading the reviews, and I’m really glad we did.
First, it was a smaller place with about 10 or so tables. It looked like a typical Chinese take-out place but that is where the similarities ended.
First we were greeted by the sweetest lady who sat us. She informed us the lunch special included a drink so we both got sodas. Originally we were doing water but she let us know we could get a soda as it’s included.
I ordered the sesame chicken and my son ordered the sweet and sour. These are our go to meals. We opted for egg drop soup and the meal also come with an egg roll.
The egg rolls and soup came out super fast. The sweet and sour sauce for the eggrolls is the best I have ever had. Also, I’m not normally a fan of egg drop soup but I went with it because I didn’t want the hot and sour soup. I’m glad I did. That soup is the best egg drop soup I have tasted. I ate mine and my sons because he wasn’t a fan of it. PLUS…they give you a huge basket of crunchy fried wonton strips with it.
The eggroll was good. It was on the smaller side in side…basically halfway between a spring roll and typical size eggroll. However, the highlight was the sweet and sour dipping sauce. 10/10. My sons who NEVER eats eggrolls ate this one and raved about the sauce. So…plus 1000 points just for that.
The entrees came right on time. It was served on and actual plate with some attention to presentation. Sesame chicken was just about perfect. Crunchy and sauced with plentiful sesame seeds. It was not highly breaded and soggy dripping with sauce. I think it would rival P.F. Chang’s unquestionably.
Fried rice was great. I make fried rice at home a ton so I am picky. This was a perfect pairing. A couple of pieces of broccoli and a bed of rice noodles under the chicken rounded off the plate and added a nice extra texture.
My son’s sweet and sour chicken looked like full chicken fingers they were so big. Definitely not the small mostly breaded chicken bits you get at most places.
Now for the best part….total bill for all of this was $26 and some change. After 25% tip we left paying under $35 for a fantastic meal.
I would go back over and over if I lived here. Just a solid and wonderful experience at a local restaurant. Stop by and support them!“

“I have eaten carry out sesame chicken from this restaurant over the last 5 years and there has never been a taste difference in all those years....
Love the egg drop soup so much I learned to make the soup at homs with extra ingredients. ...
.
Altho you have to specify medium.or large otherwise they automatically presume you want large .“

“We love our local Chinese takeout haunt. It’s not the fanciest Chinese around but they are super fast with your order and the portions are generous. Can’t beat it when we don’t feel like cooking and we can pick it up down the road in 10 minutes. The food is an excellent value for what you get. My husband and I particularly love the eggplant. I love their cheese wontons. Hot and sour soup is amazing. Their combos are great because you get rice and an eggroll or soup. The sauces are pretty generic and some dishes have been a little meh, and their fried rice isn’t really fried rice (more like yellow rice lacking any veggies or egg bits) but for the price you can’t beat it. If you want something spicy, make sure you ask because just because you see something is spicy on the menu doesn’t mean it will be. I ordered Hunan chicken and it looked nothing like Hunan, no chilies. The eggplant which wasn’t supposed to be spicy was spicier than my chicken. Pretty sure they just make up their own version of sauces for some dishes. I do like that they serve broccoli, carrot, onion etc with almost every stir fry. Next time I will ask for chilis if I want it spicy.“

“We have eaten in and had take-out. Usually the food is better than average. I just hate it when I order take-out and get home to find something missing. This time it was the chow mein. No noodles! Really? Only cabbage and shrimp, no noodles.
Chicken Lomein is good! Mooshoo is very good! Not crazy about the egg rolls or spring rolls. I ordered online. It's better to call in and actually talk to someone.
Hit and miss, but still above average.
Update: We have found our favorite dishes here and they are consistently delicious. Try the Moo shoo pork with extra plum sauce, and Kung pow chicken. Get the fried rice too! Soups are also good!“

“✅ My first time here and I will absolutely be coming back! The man was very kind while also efficient and fast, and the food was much better than many of the more expensive places around; fresh, delicious, great serving sizes, etc. I'm so sick and tired of getting dry/old poorly battered/cooked chicken, stale/weird tasting crispy noodles, and under seasoned/goupy/cold egg drop soup, especially with as pricey as Asian Cuisine is nowdays, and this place was NONE of that. Definitely recommend 💯“

“Panda Express is a solid choice for fast, flavorful Chinese‑American food that’s convenient without sacrificing taste. The setup is cafeteria‑style, letting you choose from a variety of well‑seasoned entrées and sides — perfect for a quick lunch, dinner on the go, or a casual meal with friends or family.
The menu hits all the familiar favorites. Orange Chicken is the star attraction: crispy, saucy, and sweet with a hint of tang. Beijing Beef and Kung Pao Chicken bring savory, bold flavors with a bit of spice and texture, while Honey Walnut Shrimp offers a sweeter, crunchy alternative. Sides like steamed rice, fried rice, and chow mein are dependable classics that balance the bold main dishes.“

“There are tables but Chop Suey Inn is and has been for decades a takeaway establishment. The menu is extensive and has items most Chinese restaurants don't have. The egg rolls are a star here with tiny shrimp and bits of pork. Unlike everywhere else these egg rolls are bigger and yet still lighter, two would make a meal for some. I've eaten their food since moving here in the early 1980s and I'm pleased to say the food quality has not changed. If someone has a craving for a particular dish that's hard to find check them out, they may have it.“
