Don't hesitate to give Mexican Express a try.We moved across town and hadn't been there lately, but we sure have missed it. We made the trip today and am glad to report that nothing has changed. The food is still excellent. The beans and rice are the best in town. If you like your beans thick, dark and cheesy {think El Palacio) you are sure to love them. The entrees are just as good - thick and meaty, and a really good value.If you call in your order a few minutes in advance you will be in and out in a flash. The place has been here for a very long time, so the owners know how to do things right. They pretty much have it down to a science. We will definitely make the trip more often from now on.Oh yes... this is a take-out/delivery place only, so "atmosphere" is pretty much irrelevant.

This a true hole in the wall, and it has been around at least the early 90s. I keep worrying it will be closed and gone one day.The best chicken tacos I've ever had because it isn't like other Mexican restaurants. Can't explain it, you just have to try it.Anytime I'm in town I make sure to stop by. It's not in the glamorous side of Huntsville, but then again, it's Alabama so even the nicest areas aren't really that glamorous either lol.Give it a try.

Ok. I stumbled across this little place while getting my daughters phone repaired next door. Had I not been looking for the phone store- I would never have paid attention to this aging shopping center at all. I dropped the phone off and came home and started looking up the reviews for Mexican Express. I did a deep dive. What I read in reviews is that this magnificent little place has been in business since the 80s and has quite the following. I also was surprised to learn that many compared the food to that of the highly missed El Palacio- my favorite mexican restaurant that closed down years ago. I decided I needed to give it a go and put in our order for when I was supposed to pick up the repaired phone. I was not disappointed. If you knew el palacio you know it's not known for authentic or healthy Mexican food like people want today- it was what I'd call 80s/90s Americanized mexican. Think tons of gooey melted shredded cheddar cheese and tons of grease. Think what you want- but it was delicious ! The salsa wasn't full of chunky fresh veggies- was a thinner sauce JUST LIKE EP's. For 15 minutes today as I was eating my enchiladas with rice and cheese covered beans I was 10 again on Friday night eating in that dark cave-like dining room in a booth at El Palacio with the stucco walls and red/brown carpet before my mom and her boyfriend took me to fantasia for mini golf. The man that runs this hidden gem is also the brother of Donny from Donny's Diamonds so a well known family in the area. Also note that this place is take-out only and they do deliver locally. If Chipotle is your kind of Mexican this isn't the place for you but if you were a fan of El Palacio style Mexican food- Mexican Express is for you.
