Ruth’s Southern Soul Food Tea Room

Older review, just sharing on Google:Been wanting to try Ruth Rose for a while now, and an opportunity presented itself this week! I made the drive out there intent on getting some fried chicken, and that's exactly what I received.Ruth Rose Southern Tea Room is a cute, smaller restarant. It's located in a small shopping center directly adjacent to a Lawler's Barbecue. You order at the counter. The menu is relatively small, but I think that's a good thing; it usually indicates a restaurant does a few things quite well. Anything fried is made fresh, which is noted on the menu and when you order - be prepared to wait a few minutes! The inside of the restaurant was a little chilly, so you may want to bring a coat if you come during the winter.The restaurant was mostly empty when I arrived, but the woman working at the counter gave me a very warm welcome. She was very kind and friendly and I really enjoyed speaking with her while I ordered. I was a little sad to find out they no longer offer fried chicken breast; it's leg and thigh only. I still wanted to try, so I ordered that with French fries and yams as my side items. Meals come with a water or tea. They also have cans of soda available, but no drink machines, so keep that in mind if refills are important to you. I opted for tea, since that's my favorite drink anyway. :)My friend from the counter let me know when I only had a few minutes left on my chicken. She brought the food out to me when it was ready -- and wow, it was hot and fresh! Both the chicken and the fries were made for me upon ordering.Overall, my meal was quite good. Again, I wish I could've had a chicken breast...but I still enjoyed these pieces very much! Super hot, crispy skin, and still juicy inside. Ideally, I like a tiny bit heavier breading on my chicken; this chicken reminded me of a grandma's kind of fried chicken she'd make over the weekend. Definitely not a bad thing -- very homecooked feel. The fries were surprisingly good! They had some kind of yummy seasoning on them, were cooked well, and were so hot the insides were almost melted. I love them that way. I wasn't totally sold on the yams. They were cooked nicely, and were soft and tender, but they did have a spice that I wasn't super familiar with that threw me off. I liked them well enough to eat them all, though! Lastly, I would've liked a small piece of bread with my meal (cornbread, roll, whatever), which was missing. On the whole though, I enjoyed my experience very much. The service was lovely, the price was right (~$11 for my meal and drink), and the food was tasty. Give Ruth Rose a try!

He was knowledgeable, made suggestions and made sure our food was perfect.We had a twenty minute drive back home and the food was still hot! Our fish and fries were still crispy! The flavors were so good. We ordered fried tilapia, greens yams, Mac and cheese, fries and cornbread. E V E R Y T H I N G was perfect. Will be eating here again!

Food looked good but tasted even better!

Chicken was a little over cooked. Maybe the oil needed changing.

My first time eating there was today I had fried pork chops Mac cheese an yams it’s was really good fresh hot I will be going back soon ?

My Girl friend got some of the crab bags and they were PERFECT...some good sea food!

Had the CRAB BAG AND IT WAS PREFECT!!!!!!!! So juicy and best thing ever...the sauce was amazing...going to try wings in the sauce next weekend

The Crab Bowl Bag was delicious although the potatoes were a little raw.

Good service, excellent food. All sides were awesome!!! Black eyed peas and collard greens were fantastic!!! Pork chop and catfish were moist and flavorful! Prices great!

I'd much rather support small local businesses over chain restaurants. This place is awesome and way better than what you'd get at a chain. Food seems to be made to order, so it comes out fresh and hot! Stop reading this and get down there now!
