If you have not tried Hometown Kitchen in Millbrook, you should definitely give them a try. I went in at 6:25 tonight to place a to-go order. They close at 7. The owner and the employees were the kindest people. They did not seem irritated by me showing up late. I told them that my MIL wanted “freshly cooked and crispy chicken wings’. They made her chicken just the way she wanted and the sides she ordered, fried green tomatoes, rice and gravy, and green beans, were cooked perfectly. I had fried catfish and macaroni and cheese. Their macaroni and cheese is baked but it is not dry. The catfish….the batter was amazingly seasoned! No need for tartar sauce or cocktail sauce.
The food was fantastic but the owner, staff, and family that work there made my evening.

We decided to give this place a try after accidentally stumbling upon it yesterday. I got the fried chicken (breast and wing) with green beans and fried green tomatoes. My husband got the fried pork chops with fried green tomatoes and mac n cheese. I have had lots of fried chicken and NONE have come close to the plate I was served last night. Hands down the best fresh fried chicken I have ever had in my life. My husband’s friend pork chops were melt in your mouth as well! Only thing I would change is the cornbread was a little dry for my taste, but that’s just my personal preference. Mr. D - their son is very very generous offering their home sauce made in house! Overall, we felt like family there and the fact they all take the time to stop by your table and get to know you says a lot about this sweet family. We will be back - and I will be sending all my Birmingham/Shelby County folks their way for some SOUL FOOD.

Hands down best collard greens I've ever had!! (Fresh not canned). Catfish, pork chops, hamburger steak. It was all very delicious. If you are looking for some classic southern food highly recommend.

I had a fried pork chop which had a good taste but was on the thin side and slightly overcooked. The yams were delicious 😋! Service wasn't impressive, the young man at the counter didn't seem to care much and there was no follow up after getting our food either. The atmosphere was fine but nothing special. I would go again and we did have a good meal overall.

I went by today for the first time and ordered my husband the pork chops with a few sides and I got the fried green tomatoes. Everything was so tasty! Very pleased with the food and the service. Will definitely be returning. I love supporting local restaurants especially when God is at the center of what they do which I suspect this is so. Looking forward to trying some of their desserts next!

The staff was very amazing.They made my husband and I feel very welcome as soon as we walked in with a warm greeting. Until the point they actually felt like already known family. The food was “Right On Point”(Great).The right amount of portions were given.The atmosphere was calm and relaxing while enjoying our meal. “Come Hungry and Leave Happy”❤️
