Respectably good BBQ located in downtown Mobile. We stopped by there before visiting USS Alabama. We've never been to Mobile so we just did a blind search on google map and found this place. We were concerned about parking but we easily found a spot. It was a nice day so we had our food to go and ate at the park next door. I'm not sure about their services but the interior seems pretty nice for a BBQ joint. Everything we had was good. They packed us some coleslaw (not sure if it was their normal thing to do) and it was great.

My coworkers and I were in Mobile for a conference and wanted to experience some Alabama BBQ. It was tasty, and hits the spot when you want BBQ, but it is nothing out of this world. I ordered the pork sandwich with coleslaw and pickles. Never got the pickles, but the sandwich was jam-packed with meat and coleslaw! The seasoned fries were perfectly hot, crispy, and not too oily. Cute restaurant on the inside. Very friendly and attentive staff. I had a problem with my order and they were kind enough to remove it from the bill and offered to remake it

I got the brisket nachos. There was barely any meat or cheese and the cheese wasn't even melted. I was really disappointed. When I went to the old location it was much better.

I’m not sure why this place has such great reviews. We ordered the "special," which was a brisket sandwich with cheese, bacon, and fries, but there was nothing special about it. The brisket was dry and bland, the bacon was overly salty and undercooked, and the overall meal was disappointing. To make things worse, our server seemed more interested in chatting with other customers than checking on us. The prices were also steep for what you get - $20 each for the special felt unreasonable. I wouldn’t recommend dining here.

Choose the special as usually specials are discounted items on the menu and come to find out it was 20 dollars per meal. The brisket was unseasoned and had no barbecue on it at all. Fries were fine and service was good too but the price for the flavor was horrible. Would not eat here again. Definitely go to Meat Boss!

I am trying to support our small businesses by eating in downtown Mobile but my two experiences at Cotton State BBQ were not that great. The loaded baked potato was very very dry. Way too much of a potato and too little of the BBQ and other toppings. I wont order that again. Then I tried the State Dog. I got my to go order and walked two minutes to my office and the buns on my dogs were absolutely soaked. I had to peel the buns off and just eat the dogs. Not worth my money for that. Maybe it will get better. We will see. :(
I dropped into the new location off Conception just to check out the menu and pricing. Lady behind the counter immediately asked for my name to take the order down but didn't even greet me. Once I saw how high the prices were, I told her I changed my mind because the prices went up. She said they have always been the same to which I calmly replied, "not to what I have seen." She rudely told me to have a nice day as I went to walk out with a snarky attitude.
The food is decent but definitely not worth the price. You are better off driving the distance to Meat Boss. Also, if their employees have this bad of an attitude to someone who wants to shop around for a good meal then absolutely not worth anyone's time. I'll make sure to stop anyone from going there to eat in the future.
