We went for lunch. It was a little busy but we were seated almost immediately! I had a blackened chicken salad. The meat was a little chewy but overall it was acceptable.
My husband had the veggie plate, peas, collard greens, etc. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had the banana pudding, no made from scratch, you can tell.
I would still recommend Mama's. The food was good, not great. The atmosphere and service was great!

... Took the new Amtrak service to Mobile and we've eaten at several restaurants in town. Mama's is by far the best food in town with the best service. Affordable prices. Chicken & Dumplings was on point and the shrimp platter had awesome flavor. That Mac& Cheese was the bomb. Eat Here !

Wow! If you are in Mobile, AL - EAT HERE! The best soul home cooked food you can hope for. Everyone including the kids cleared everything on their plates. Owner is FANTASTIC! They made us a special dessert, and the conversation and service were an absolute joy!

I remember coming here a few years ago and it was awesome. I guess they changed management or something. The service was fine. Inside was a little cramped but it was ok. The food came out suspiciously fast. I ordered country fried steak and my company ordered fried chicken and sides. It came out in less than 5 minutes. Which makes it obvious that it's not freshly made. The macaroni we ordered was very grainy and had a weird texture. The green beans were completely bland, no seasoning at all. Corn bread muffin was very dry. The country fried steak was fine as were the mashed potatoes. The prices are reasonable but I will not be coming here again.

The best thing about this place was the location. The service was subpar. We waited forever for drinks and the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. The food was the worst thing I had eaten my entire four day vacation. I had the shrimp and grits. They had no flavor, the collard greens were gross and the macaroni and cheese was disgusting. I also did not like the presentation when the food was brought out. The two side dishes I requested were macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The bowls of each side were on the side of the shrimp and grits dish and had fallen out of the dishes. It looked as if the waiter was trying to rush to deliver the food and it spilled out on the side of my shrimp and grits bowl. I will never be back.
