This has been my favorite place to eat in Mobile for years. We went for my daughter’s birthday and I was so disappointed. We were the last seated, I ordered sushi and she ordered Hibachi. There was no show, which is part of what you pay for and part of why we went for her birthday. Everything was so salty it was almost inedible. Our drinks were never refilled and my sushi order was only half right. I would have said something if we had ever seen our server. The whole table had to wait 20 mins for the waitress to come back with our cards and the restaurant wasn’t even a quarter full. Not something you wanna pay $100 for.

The food was absolutely incredible; everything was truly delicious. However, our waitress, Julie, had a completely terrible attitude toward my partner and me. I've honestly never had such a bad experience in a restaurant, especially since I'm a waitress myself and I know how to provide great service without making customers feel uncomfortable. I was ready to leave, but I decided to stick it out because I really wanted to eat here. Management really needs speak to her about this or at least educate her on how customers should be properly treated so that these kind of appalling experiences don't happen again.

I LOVE MY SUSHI CHEF AND SUSHI WAITRESS! They provide amazing service and delicious sushi. The best in Mobile. My husband and I will only go here for sushi, and we always take out of town guests here for the amazing experience and food. 10/10 💗

I hate to make a review but Julie was the nastiest server I have ever experienced. Her attitude was beyond disgusting and she was extremely lazy. She made the whole experience uncomfortable and unpleasant. I hope management addresses the issue before too many people have the same experience. I would hate to see how she interacts with others she sees on a daily basis. I went with a group of people and had never experienced this kind of service. I hope management addresses her behavior issues as well or else she will not make it far in life as a older woman in the service industry…

The food is really good, I’m very happy with the sushi is amazing and the hibachi steak and shrimp is also really good and I really like how they implement a new style to order your food, where you check what you would like and how many, it’s different from other places I’ve been too and when you’re really socially distant (like my fiance) it gets rid of that anxiety where you say what you’d like. And Julie, our server, was very kind, it was like she could read our minds and knew exactly when to check on us. Everything was amazing and we will be coming back again. ❤️😊

The hostess was friendly helpful and engaging however, our waitress was not forthcoming, with an attitude of discontent. As if she couldn't bother to be there, had to request utensils, soy sauce in a sushi restaurant is a new for me, when requesting a beverage menu for both alcoholic as well as non I had to make suggestions such as do you have this item or this beverage and then for her to remember whether or not their menu had said item and take her memory as word for it only for my partner to find out they did have other items that we were told they did not.

As for the food- everything was not worth the hype and for the most part barely qualified as sushi like all of the ingredients were there the integrity and quality not so much. No I was not expecting it to be like A5 territory on everything however I've had better store sushi. The sashimi was hit or miss when widely varying cuts and quality. I cannot argue that the food was not sushi it was in all accounts sushi.. like by definition of the ingredients were there.

Atmosphere - when we showed up it still smells like cleaning bleach and cleaning chemicals which does not bode very well for a food environment.

All in all don't know if it was a bad experience or wrong time but not a strong contender for being rememberable in addition seeing another review in which another customer and reviewer had issues with their wait staff makes me think it's the latter of being just bad/ poor

We've been going to Shogun about once a week for a month or so & we normally love it. We visited tonight (9/27/25) & the meats were all very salty tasting. He put a lot of the white powdery looking stuff on it (in a red container), which I always assumed was seasoning but I noticed he was putting A LOT more than normal.
I've noticed that the food is best (absolutely perfect!) when it's one of the older gentleman. I was only able to eat a few bites & the rest of my family didn't eat much of theirs either. I was really disappointed tonight but normally it's great food, service & atmosphere.
I'll update this review if/when we go again. It's a lot of money to spend & only be able to eat a few bites of the meats so I'm really disappointed tonight.
Normally I would give Shogun 5 stars across the board.

I really hate leaving this but I hope the owners will straighten up. The service has gone down hill dramatically over the last year. The food quality is dropping as well. I hope they can turn this, i used to love eating here.
