Chandler’s Smokehouse Grill delivered an outstanding Southern barbecue and soul food experience with incredible flavors, generous portions, and genuine hospitality throughout the visit. The smoked meats were tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, with rich smoky seasoning that stood out in every bite. I especially enjoyed the ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese, all of which tasted homemade and full of authentic Southern flavor. The restaurant atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and community focused, creating a comfortable environment for families and casual dining. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and made everyone feel appreciated from the moment they arrived. Everything throughout the restaurant appeared clean, organized, and professionally maintained. This is definitely one of the best places in Montgomery for barbecue, soul food, and authentic Southern comfort cooking.

One of the best things about traveling to new places is finding amazing local places to eat. After setting up camp in a rain storm we didn't feel up to making dinner. We Google searched for something near the campground and came across Chandlers Smokehouse Grill in Montgomery.

When we pulled in, we knew we had made a good choice. The parking lot was full with more people coming! Robert got the ribs and I got fried catfish. Everything was delicious! No sauce was needed for the ribs. The catfish was seasoned perfectly and piping hot! The potato salad was amazing!

We have this location bookmarked so we can return often. Great local spot, great customer service

We were traveling through Montgomery and googled bbq, picked Chandler’s. I had what might have been the best pulled pork sandwich of my life and I am pretty old. The staff were great and welcoming. Only downside is the location is in a somewhat run down area. We had no issues whatsoever while there.

If I could give 10 stars I would. This is the BEST place to eat! A hidden gem. The bbq is out of this world--the bbq salad was unbelievable! We were stuffed when we left and still had to get to go boxes! Red velvet cake--omg! Its reasonable priced and worth every bit of it. Southern hospitality at its finest! Will definitely be back.

My husband and I stopped at Chandler’s Smokehouse Grill in Montgomery, Alabama while driving from the Midwest to Florida for vacation, and it was exactly the kind of local spot we love to find on road trips. After doing a little research ahead of time, we saw they had a soul-food–focused menu with both barbecue and catfish, and we were sold. 👍

The building looks like it may have been a former fast-food restaurant (maybe an old Hardee’s), and the décor inside is simple—but don’t let that fool you. The bathrooms were clean (one toilet was out of order and the toilet paper holder needed attention), but none of that took away from how excellent the food was.

The catfish was cooked perfectly—flaky, flavorful, and not greasy at all. I ordered the ribs, which were a great value at $17 for four bones, two sides, bread, and a drink. The ribs came sauced but still had a nice smoky flavor, and the sauce had just the right touch of sweetness without being overpowering.

For sides, I chose mac and cheese and baked beans. Both were delicious with a definite Southern twist. The mac and cheese had that baked, almost custard-style texture I love, and the baked beans had a subtle sweetness and were cooked just right. My husband had the coleslaw (good but pretty standard) and the collard greens—which were excellent and apparently their Saturday special instead of green beans.

Overall, this place is about 2½ miles off the interstate and absolutely worth the short detour if you enjoy Southern cooking or good barbecue. We especially appreciated supporting a local business while getting such a satisfying meal. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re passing through Montgomery!

Like other reviews, this place kept coming up, so we decided to stop.
We ordered a BBQ pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. Wow, what absolute great flavor, and the little bit of char as well. By far one of the better pork sandwiches I have had.
Honestly didnt know what to expect not being from the area. But they were welcoming and friendly.
