Good for drinks, but you’re better off eating at Chipotle. 2 burritos and 3 drinks will run you $95 This is geared for people (white) who are intimidated by Mexican food/flavors so they are TEX-

Great spot off the beaten path in Montgomery. When they tell you it's spicey, believe them. ?Vegetarian options: We had the vegetable quesadilla with sweet potatoes and pinto beans.

I went there tonight with three other people. The service was terrible and the food was terrible. The manager was rude to us and we will never go back. I would give it zero stars if I could.

I visited El Rey yesterday before an event that was in the area. There was over an hour wait for the first available table but I got lucky and was able to grab two seats at the bar within 5 minutes. They serve one of the best margaritas I have ever had and they have a great drink menu. I ordered 2 street tacos, chips and queso and my only complaint was that I told them that I was allergic to onions and asked to make sure none would be included with my meal. They had onions in their pico de Gallo and were going to leave that off but forgot. It was a busy night so I just dealt with it and the sweet potato street taco was fabulous. I would not have waited an hour so I am glad I was able to sit at the bar, this is definitely one of the better places to eat in Montgomery.

Cool 70's hipster vibe. Good house margaritas. The enchiladas were however a bit strange. They were not enchiladas at all. There was no enchilada sauce, and there was no filling wrapped by a tortilla as you would expect with an enchilada. It was a bunch of ingredients sitting on top of a dry corn tortilla, again, with no enchilada sauce. Bizarre, but still a cool vibe for drinks.

Great neighborhood place. Service is friendly and food is a different take on some Mexican dishes so a nice change. Cheese dip and margaritas were both excellent. Not the first visit and will not be the last.

I have heard so much about El Rey, and we were finally in town to try this legendary food joint. I have as of late been over the "from the can to the microwave" Mexican food, and El Ray was such a breath of culinary fresh air. The queso dip, the guac, even the accidentally spicier-than-normal salsa/pico left nothing to be desired. My wife is a veteran fan of the food so she got the puerco verde quesadilla, and i went with the bean/rice/cheese/guac burrito with salsa/pico added in it. The rice was distinct in wonderful flavor, the guac was fresh, and whole whole burrito was awesome and filling. We sprang for a snifter of some fine sipping tequila, the Gran Centenario Leyenda Extra Añejo, and the essences that glass of beauty brought forth really brought a nice end to the night with wife and mother-in-law at El Rey. Cudos to the service, bartender, and the chefs totally rocking a small, independent food joint!

They came out to an event I was present at and for one elote and a cup of horchata, I paid 16 dollars!!! The elote was good and I can say I'm not as mad about paying 7 dollars for it, but for a 16 ounce cup filled to the brim with ice, I would expect more than what tasted like milk that was left in frosted flakes for a split second garnished with Publix nutmeg. For 8 dollars a cup, you should be growing the rice, carving the cinnamon off the tree, and handgrating the nutmeg yourself. That was genuinely the worst excuse for an agua fresca I have ever tasted and an even worse excuse for a Mexican restaurant and I hope the names of every customer they got are all listed when their time on earth is over and they must answer for the sins of the food they've sold to hardworking Americans. I could not have been more upset even if they unburried my dogs, called my grandmother a street worker, and opened a credit card in my name. Please close your doors!Edit: 7 dollars for a HALF elote. Still not as mad about it as I was about the drinkSave yourself some money and some trouble and get your elote and horchata from Sol or El Chido or La Parilla Loca

Service could have been better considering not many people there. Food wasn't as good as we remembered it being 10 years ago...

I was not impressed for my first visit. For me to get a Steak Fajita it did not come out sizzling. It was on a regular plate. The steak was seasoned but not heat hot. I was confused.
