Came here based on reviews and was not happy with the service. We waited over 5 minutes before the hostess even showed up, only to tell us that unless we had a reservation they didn’t have any tables. She saw our entire party of 3 and said we could sit in the bar area. So, we went over to the bar area where they had a giant common table-away from the bar, but considered bar area-LITERALLY EIGHT NEXT TO DINNER TABLES! However, the bar tender said we couldn’t sit at that table because our 13 year old was with us. I re-approached the hostess and she said “oh yeah, sorry.” Again, the table is literally right next to dinner tables! I’m actually glad we didn’t waste our money here and was able to spend it somewhere else where they would appreciate our money.

Mallory is amazing!! I’ve visited La Jolla several times, and it’s always incredible, but this is the best service I’ve ever had here. My mom and I came for dinner tonight in lieu of a small celebration of mine and this was the perfect place to celebrate. Mallory mentioned she has only been working here since February, but she was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us excellent recommendations. The food is also incredible every time I’m here, the filet is to die for!! Mallory also mentioned that the owner is in the kitchen every night and you can tell. You can tell how much thought and care goes into every dish and it truly feels like a close knit family run business. 10/10 recommend for any and every occasion!

We just had a really awkward experience at La Jolla. My husband was taking me on a Mother’s Day Weekend Date Night. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:02pm and walked to the door. The door said that the establishment was open from “4pm - until” so we assumed we were good to go. When we walked in, there was no hostess at the door so we continued on and walk towards the bar. We stood there for a minute or two waiting to see if someone would greet us. A gentleman emerged from the kitchen, I assume he was the head chef or manager, his demeanor wasn’t very nice or welcoming. He walked up to us and said, “the kitchen closed at 9pm.” We explained to him that we were unaware of the closing time and he remained quiet, no friendly banter or any attempt to welcome us back during opening hours. At that moment I felt my husband nudge me and say, “what are they looking at?” When I looked around the room there was a large number of patrons staring at us and grimacing with frowns of disapproval. I’m not one to pull the race card, but the looks we were getting definitely gave “your kind isn’t welcome here.” It was a disappointing experience to say the least. The kitchen being closed was not an issue and we were definitely willing to come back. But after tonight’s experience I doubt we will return. We left La Jolla feeling dismissed and unwelcome. Wow. What a let down…………

La Jolla never disappoints. I go every time I get to Montgomery! They always prepare the meats exceptionally. Whether it’s beef, lamb, bison, or their phenomenal double pork chops, they’re always tender and flavorful.

The food was good would have been better if it all didnt come out cold. The Elk Ragu needed salt but the burger lamb chops green tomatoes AND swordfish were great!
