Little Donkey Mexican Restaurant - Montgomery

My husband and I came here to eat twice while we visited Montgomery. It was a treat both times! The staff is friendly, efficient, and kind. We highly recommend the adobada tacos and the non-alcoholic sparkling drinks! The Little Donkey is wonderful!

2026 update: happy hour is decent but no longer has $2 street tacos.
Expanded area of the restaurant feels like a sad holding zone for people with children.
Great happy hour, good tacos and solid drink selection. Staff is always engaging and nice.

I get the concept of Mexican food with a twist but this was just plain terrible. You have to pay if you want salsa and bad salsa at that. Food was just bad, the pork carnitas tacos we're wayyyyy over salted to the point of being uneditable. The guacamole was basically a smashed avacado with a bit of cilantro on top. pinto beans were ok. The prices are ridiculous for what you get, please just go to any other Mexican place including taco bell if you actually want something edible to eat.

Surprised at how good this place is and how different it is from a regular Mexican restaurant.

They cater to gluten free. They make their own sauces. They make their own corn tortillas from scratch.

I wish they had a location in the Atlanta area.

Oh my goodness….doesn’t matter if you cater your son’s rehearsal dinner or dine in, the food is absolutely amazing!!!! The owner David is awesome and we’ve known him for years.

The only time we dine in is when we know Tawny is working! She is the most energetic, sweet, funny and efficient server there! She makes our experience a 10/10!

The food was absolutely delicious. I wasn't expecting anything great walking in, but walking out...so good! I had the burger which was cooked to perfection. I tried the brisket quesadilla and I will definitely get it next time. I heard the fried chicken is the best in town. The sweet tea was just right.

Bottom line, if it was anything like our experience, you will love it!
