Montgomery Zoo: A Hidden Gem Worth Supporting
Having lived in Birmingham for 10 years, we were frequent visitors to the Birmingham Zoo—sometimes visiting 2-4 times a week at different points in our lives. While we absolutely love the Birmingham Zoo, I want to take a moment to explain why I believe the Montgomery Zoo is better from a foundational perspective.

The animals are amazing and fun to watch, some you can interact with like feeding the giraffes JJ & April, as well as parakeet cove feeding all of the parakeets, the food at the Overlook Cafe is always great very tasty, and all of the zoo staff are very friendly!
Nicely staged taxidermy. The lighting and themes could use a major upgrade. It was a great place to escape the sun for a bit, but definitely feels left in the past unfortunately. The robot ice-cream machine in the lobby was cool and only $5. Admission is free with Zoo ticket.
