I visited The House Restaurant with a group of friends and the food was delicious and well portioned. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and maple braised Brussel sprouts. I was told by my friends that the steak dish and the shrimp and grits were also excellent. The service was good and the food was brought out in a timely manner. It was good size crowd for a Friday evening but it was not overly busy. I would visit again and recommend trying.

Review for The House Restaurant, Montgomery, AL

I recently stayed at the Renaissance in Montgomery, and during my visit, I decided to dine at The House restaurant. My first experience two nights ago was excellent. I don’t eat pork and have a shellfish allergy, which I made clear when I ordered. The bartender that evening was fantastic—she ensured my dietary needs were met by substituting the shellfish and verifying there was no pork in my food. It was such a great meal that I chose to have dinner there again on my last night.

Unfortunately, my second experience was incredibly disappointing. I ordered the shrimp and grits but asked for salmon instead of shrimp and no bacon. The server slightly adjusted the order, giving me salmon with a side of grits, which was fine. However, I specifically asked for the sauce that comes with the shrimp and grits because that’s what I truly enjoy.

The server went to the back to have the sauce made for me, and I appreciated the effort. But when the sauce arrived, something tasted off. At first, I couldn’t figure it out, but as I mixed my food, I realized there was pork in the sauce. When I brought this to the bartender’s attention, she assured me that she had instructed the kitchen about my dietary restriction. Yet somehow, the miscommunication in the kitchen led to pork being included in my meal.

As someone who avoids pork for religious reasons, this was extremely upsetting. The restaurant offered to remake my meal, but by that point, I no longer trusted the kitchen to prepare my food correctly. Not only did I have to forgo my meal, but I spent the rest of the evening trying to recover from having pork in my system, which makes me sick.

This situation was completely unacceptable. I know this dish can be made without pork because it was done perfectly two nights prior. The miscommunication between the server, bartender, and kitchen staff ruined my evening and left me feeling deeply frustrated and disrespected.

While my first experience was lovely, this incident overshadowed it entirely. I can’t recommend this restaurant to others with dietary restrictions or allergies, as their lack of attention to detail could have severe consequences.

I visited this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, but unfortunately, it was a big letdown. While I don’t mind paying $38 for a lunch entrée, the quality was far from what I’d expect. The scallops were not fresh, the Caesar salad was drenched in dressing, and the salmon didn’t taste fresh either. The server was friendly, but she removed our appetizer plates without checking if we were done—little details like that can make a big difference. Overall, I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this place based on my experience.

I tried the breakfast menu and it was good value for money.
The steak was especially delicious and the eggs Benedict was also good. And the coffee is delicious.
Since it was a weekend, parking was free in front of the restaurant.

I want to thank you for your hospitality. The atmosphere was perfect, the food and the server. The chef took her time out of her busy schedule to introduce herself asking if everything met our expectations. Yes it did. It started pleasantly from the moment I booked the restaurant the accommodation awesome. We all had the same dish, the chicken dinner, the reasoning that particular meal was chosen, so many great reviews from previous people who dine there. Thank you for making a 22nd Birthday celebration memorable, for Chloe. Respectfully Erma

Would not recommend. Came in for lunch and waited a while as they didn’t even know if they were serving lunch or where to seat us. Was not busy at all. Took 10 minutes just to get our drinks and we had to remind them. Food is overpriced and music is loud. Ordered a Cesar salad and it was missing the croutons and was very light on the dressing. Asked for them and was brought out ranch dressing. Sad this is the service and food at one of our nicer hotels downtown.

Celebrating my husband's birthday, we enjoyed the meal. Food was good, shout out for the tomahawk pork chop that was deep fried - THAT was really good! The menu seemed limited and we never saw a dessert menu or options but they did bring out a surprise birthday cheesecake for my hubby while we were paying the check. Good thing we weren't lactose intolerant!

For the price it really wasn’t what I was expecting. I went with someone and it was literally about a hundred dollars. Not cheap at all and our food took a while to come out.
