This has to be the very very best southern barbecue we’ve ever eaten. We are extremely picky. Everything is so fresh and all homemade. Even the bread ( I believe ). The pound cake is most definitely home made AND it’s every bit as delicious as my mum’s homemade pound cake. Their sauces are home made, the coleslaw with a touch of relish makes it special. The portions are HUGE!! The prices are not outrageous. We will be back here to camp at Frank Jackson state park and will look forward to eating at Hooks again. Wow what a great barbecue!!
I already knew the food would be good! I did have to wait a while, and I was not able to call ahead to order, because they were so very busy. But they're very busy because they're very good!

Wanted to have ribs but they were out. So have to come early if you’d like ribs. The pulled pork was good, as well as the baked beans. Hubby said his regular chicken plate was good. I liked the homemade style cut fries. The mild bbq sauce is vinegary based, so if that’s not your thing, maybe get the sweet bbq sauce. Pound cake came with the meal and we liked it. 2 pieces of Plain old white bread, not grilled.Parking: In front of the building….very busy…..we have a Dooley so had to park across the street.

The people are AWESOME here and the fried okra is legit the closest to grandma's fried okra Ive ever found! It's a little hole in the wall but a local favorite with good reason! The prices are fair and portions are freaking enormous for what you pay. Sometimes it's a wait depending on what you order, it's well worth the wait! You even get a slice of cake with the platters so for $13-20 you get dinner AND dessert my 2nd cousin told me about this place because she's been coming here since she was a kid! She wasn't lying when she said the pulled pork sandwich was the best she's ever eaten!100% recommend the Opp location because they're fantastic! Great food and great people. I drove semi longhaul for 30 years and this location is in my top 2 for the entire country (lower 48 states) and that's saying alot! They rival my favorite place in Texas Soulmans and in a competition between the two they'd give soulmans a run for the money! I just wish they'd add a beef brisket to the menu. If they ever do add it they'll be taking the #1 spot for sure for my all time favorite, just because I do love a good brisket
