Shipp’s Dockside Grill

Somewhat confusing setup, no greetings (or thanks for comin' for that matter) we were handed menus and told to come back to 1 of 2 counters to order, got our own drinks in disposable cups and were given a buzzer. When it went off, after about 10 minutes, the sweetest waiter came out, gave us a thumbs-up. And as we started to return the buzzer to the counter, he brought out our food. All of this to say, we'll be back!!
The shrimp poboy and fried chicken sandwich was some of the best we've had down here!

We came back to Shipp’s again this week to try the Grouper Pontchartrain special for $24 (regularly priced $38). Fresh Gulf Grouper, Panko Encrusted,
Shrimp, Jumbo Lump Crab, Mushrooms,
lemon Butter was amazing paired with our go to bottle of king estate Pinot Gris. It was all amazing! I’m not sure what is better grouper night or steak night? I guess we’ll have to try them both next week to be sure.

Our servers was on point tonight as well despite the restaurant being much busier during Thanksgiving break week.

Absolutely a date night destination. The ambiance is just right for a first date and dates after, I could easily see this being a tradition for some who know a good one when they see one .

My gosh. We just ate here and got the Thursday filet minion for old times sake. It was melt in your mouth tender , I got the tomato vinegarette dressing and it was the best ever. I added a lobster tail with melted butter and it was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was named “special “. She was perfect with everything. It was a meal to remember.

The atmosphere was great at the marina! They have live music on Saturdays, featuring the very talented “Tyler Ward!” That did it for me! The food isn’t great, but it’s the whole experience w/ Tyler that was so enjoyable!

I debated on leaving a review, but I wanted to share our experience to hopefully save others from the same disappointment.

We dined at Shipp’s Dockside Grill on Thursday, October 9th while we were on vacation. It was just okay—nothing special—but what really ruined the visit was the service. Our waitress acted as if we were an inconvenience from the moment we sat down. She didn’t explain any of the specials, barely checked on us, and made the entire experience uncomfortable.

This was supposed to be a special night for my husband and me — one of the rare evenings we had out alone while on vacation without our baby — and it was honestly disappointing. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry myself, so I understand how busy things can get and I’m always generous when it comes to tipping. However, this was the first time I’ve ever felt like not leaving one at all.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place based on the service alone. There are plenty of other great spots in Orange Beach that actually make you feel welcome.

If you are expecting a Fishers experience, you will be disappointed. The floors are dirty, the temperature was warm, the smell of the restaurant is not pleasant, and the food is fried. Would be surprised is this is in business in 2026.

At approximately $30 a plate, the meal was the best of our week, enjoyed while watching beautiful yachts in the marina at sunset. The deep fried pimento cheese appetizer had an amazing sauce with a horseradish zing. The swordfish with pineapple salsa was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Finally, the fried seafood platter was enough for two people and absolutely delicious! So good that we are going back again tonight for our final night in Gulf Shores.

Our party of 9 had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was fantastic with a beachy, calm atmosphere. Kids were welcome here. Definitely worth the trip!
