Every Christmas, my family and I make a very intentional choice to spend our holiday at IHOP. We do this with full understanding and grace—knowing not every place is open, knowing employees are sacrificing time with their families, and knowing patience is required on a holiday. We never walk in expecting perfection. We simply expect care.
We arrived around 2:30 PM and were seated by a very kind hostess. Our server, Kolten, greeted us and took our drink order: two lemonades, one apple juice, and one Mountain Dew. When the drinks arrived, the order was incorrect—two Mountain Dews, one apple juice, and one lemonade. While this was a small mistake, it was the first sign of what would become a very long and disappointing experience. It was corrected, and we remained understanding.
We placed our food order: a breakfast sampler, a breakfast burrito, two waffles, two orders of bacon, toast, and grits.
Then we waited.
One hour passed with no food—while a table seated after us received their meals. At that point, I respectfully asked for a manager. When he came over, he contacted the kitchen, and shortly after, we overheard a comment that was deeply hurtful: “Kolten, these people have been sitting a long time… you should have said 911.”
That moment changed everything. Not because of the delay—but because of the lack of empathy behind the scenes.
After another 10–15 minutes, our food finally arrived. It was incomplete—no toast. The grits had to be requested again and arrived lukewarm. At that point, it felt as though the goal was simply to put something on the table, not to serve it with care or pride.
I fully understand what it means to work with a skeleton crew. I understand holiday stress. What I do not understand is a manager implying that receiving cold, incomplete food is acceptable simply because it’s Christmas. We did not force anyone to open. IHOP chose to be open. The choice to serve customers also comes with the responsibility to treat them with dignity.
What hurt the most was not the wait—it was the feeling that no one truly cared. That our experience didn’t matter because it was a holiday. That paying customers should just accept less.
When I requested an itemized receipt for a $71.10 bill, the total did not make sense for what we ordered. I left feeling overcharged and dismissed—like the attitude was, “It’s Christmas, deal with it.”
That is not customer service. That is not accountability. And that is not how people should be treated—on any day.
I work in customer service leadership myself, and I believe deeply that compassion and consistency should exist 24/7. Especially on holidays, when people choose familiarity and comfort. This experience was neither.
I am sharing this not out of anger, but out of disappointment—and hope. Hope that someone reads this and understands that patience should never be mistaken for silence, and grace should never be taken for granted.
We all deserve to feel respected when we sit at a table and pay for a meal—no matter the date on the calendar.

My hubby loves this place so we come every time we are that way. We spend a lot of money here over 100 every time. But the food is good and the service is great too. For breakfast food this is your place.

When we arrived, they were PACKED to the gills and everyone was still so friendly and kind. The food did take a good while to get to us, but again, they were slammed and getting reamed in the kitchen by the sounds of it. Jennifer Spryberry (??) was our server and she was an absolute gem. She always checked on us and made sure we werent forgotten. Everyone working there deserves to know how appreciated they were. Im sorry that not everyone was as kind and understanding about the place being so busy. You guys rocked.

Me and my friend came to this IHop after work about 10:00, upon arrival we saw a server and a kitchen worker sitting at a table. We figured that because we could see tables still being served inside we were good to go in. When we started to exit the car to walk in the server walked to the “Open” sign and unplugged it. After she did that they continued to look at us until we pulled away. I wouldn’t even be complaining if she had just told us “we’re closed” but I just feel like watching us pull in and get out of the car then turning the sign off is really rude especially when I see the hours on the door telling me your not closed.

My friend and I often stop in Oxford overnight. Today around 11 am we stopped for breakfast. The food was atrocious. It appeared the cook literally tried to burn our food. We never return food items because some cooks takes it personally and will defile your food before returning. We had hoped the server would say something though the food was obviously terribly badly burned . I ordered the Colorado Omelette my friend ordered the senior citizen meal. We laid out the different meats - every thing was badly burned. We got a carry out so we could take pictures of the mess. After a conversation together we decided to take the high road and just let it go. Deleting the photos and dumping the leftovers in the trash. But the activist in me forced me to at the very least write a review. Neither of us are rich so the 35.00 plus the less than 15% tip was lost. Actually I want my freaking money back. Of course that will never happen. I will never go back into that IHOP again. Have you ever tried a crispy Omelette. Don’t.

Never got food waited over a hour for food. Do not go here if you want to eat. Had to get up and leave to go get something to eat. Terrible!!!!! Tried to give more from the link but just like the our food never worked. Whoever the management group is they are horrible. Also it wasn’t like they were short staffed. Seems like they just didn’t want to work.

Ihop always has some of the most unique foods and I love that about them! The unique drinks and pancakes make it a great place to go! The oxford location has good food and service, but their health score is a little low. I am big on health scores!!! I dont generally eat places below a 92 and they were in the 80s but I did enjoy the food and so I didnt see a reason not to return. I will be back.
