I bought loose leaf tea and gifts here. The staff was very helpful and friendly and I was very pleased with my purchases.
My daughter started taking me to afternoon tea when she was living in NYC, and this was one of our favorite experiences so far. We drove 90 minutes to this charming B and B and loved every minute of our service. The owners are so friendly and knowledgeable about the teas they serve as well as the ingredients they use to prepare the food. The quiche and scones were standouts for sure. The scones served warm was a nice touch and that quiche was one of the best we have ever tasted. All the treats were tasty and we can’t say enough about the hospitality of the hosts. We were able to have such a great conversation with them and they made sure we never felt rushed and could enjoy our time together. They also have a nice gift shop where you can buy teas and other items. Even if you don’t live in Prattville, definitely take the trip to this B and B for afternoon tea. This was our 8th experience, and it ranks high on the list of our favorites.
Please clean up and cut the weeds outside and the vines running up the porch and front steps. I seriously thought the house was abandoned. The inside needed to be declutter. I was with a group, but if I had been by myself I would never have stopped.
With that being said the food was delicious. Best scones I have had in a long time.
The food is so delicious that I wanted it be a part of my parents’ 50th anniversary celebration. Thank you Beth and David for allowing your dining experience be enjoyed for others.
Cam for the tea for our daughters 16th birthday. Her and I have a lot of food allergies but they were so kind to accommodate us that was AMAZING! Highly recommend the prices are great. The food was so tasty. We will be back!
I would recommend the Smith-Byrd House tea room. The hosts were accommodating, friendly and the food was very good. Great time with friends. I will definitely return again.
Food is excellent. Make sure you call for a reservation
We had the best time having a tea party here!
I’m going to be real. The food is really good! The store is so cute! The nice lady working there/owner, so very sweet! However, the entire place needs a good cleaning, especially the outside. The outside looks like an abandoned house. The weeds are high & everything needs trimming. There are wood scraps hanging outside on the deck. It made me not want to eat inside. The ramp going into the building was falling apart. The business would be booming if they would clean it up!
My dad loves everything tea, so we visited the Smith-Byrd House. There were so many tea options and the snacks that came with it were delicious. Pay them a visit!

My children and I greatly enjoyed afternoon tea today. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food and tea were delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We look forward to returning.
The cutest place ever with the sweetest people!!!! the waitresses kinda give medieval tavern girls in the best way and their outfits are adorable. the finger sandwiches are SO good and the quiche is the best I’ve had. I cannot wait to come back in the spring time! I got the duchess tea with a bottomless pot of vanilla chai.
Read about this place just last night and happened to be nearby for work today. Don’t let the external condition of the house and yard deter you—trust me, you want to go in!!
I was immediately greeted by name (they ask for reservations) and taken to a table by a window. It’s an historic home, so it shows its age, but they’ve decorated the dining rooms in tearoom kitsch. Utterly charming. There are many options for food—you can get a nibble or go all out. I got quiche, 4 finger sandwiches, 2 scones, and 3 mini desserts. It’s no exaggeration that this is some of the best food I’ve eaten out in a long time. They know what they’re doing. And the teas! Over 100 to choose from and you get a bottomless pot so you can try whatever you want. I tried 3 which were all delicious. The staff were attentive and kind and let me stay and enjoy myself as long as I wished. It’s worth the trip. I live an hour away but I will be back.
Please come and see Mrs Beth and Dave's Skills. The tea and food is always delicious; but I have never had scones as good as these they are addicting!!
During pre- Christmas season in December 2024 we stayed one night in Pratville on our road trip across the deep South - on the way to beautiful Savannah Georgia but our short presence in Pratville Alabama became a memorable and pleasant experience it itself thanks to staying at Smith & Byrd house . We immersed ourselves in 19 th century setting , had a wonderful breakfast together with the owners David & Beth who made us feel as if we were visiting our close relatives .
They also recommended us to see Christmas displays in Pratville historic district just blocks away and we were mesmerized by the creativity and scale of beautifully adorned numerous Christmas trees plus dined at a really nice newly opened local restaurant
Also , Smyth Byrd house is very versatile- they provide opportunities for locals to hold festive events , host afternoon tea ceremonies and sell antiques ( we got a very nice and affordably priced tea set from them too )
Highly recommend to travelers, especially those enjoying the traditional charm and personable experiences which one could only get from staying at bed & breakfast houses like this one …
