Definitely the best pizza in the area AND much more. They have a good size menu including burgers, fries, crispy fish, corn nuggets, etc. I order takeout from here quite a bit. Although delicious, I would like it if the fries were crispier.
I can understand being out of pizza and wings I guess. 8 of went expecting pizza and wings. Instead we had to order from the menu. A couple dishes looked okay. But some dishes were burnt. I mean like obviously burnt and some old hard bread. I couldn't understand how anyone could let it be served. Staff seemed really ready to go home. I'll give them another try I hope I can change my review.

It was a Monday in June. I was visiting Wedowee, AL and all restaurants except one were closed. We had eaten there the day before and wanted something different. We drove to Roanoke and happened upon Downtown 56 Pizza Grill. I didn’t think a small town of about 5,000 people would have a great pizza restaurant so I opted for a cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was very good. But 2 other diners with me ordered pizza and calzone. What a happy surprise when a beautiful fresh handmade dough pizza and calzone was delivered to our table. I live in Savannah and we do not have such professional pizza here. This was like eating pizza in New York City! I was leaving for Savannah the next morning and wanted a calzone to go. So even though the restaurant doesn’t open until 11, the chef had a calzone ready for me the next day at 9:30am. Great service and very friendly too. I hope you people in Roanoke appreciate the gift you have in this restaurant.

The pizza is great, no lie. BUT - their burgers are as good as, if not better than, the typical hipster burger places like Red Robin or Farm Burger. And this is a HOMETOWN establishment, not a chain. I encourage you to give Downtown 56 a try - and get an order of fried cheese curds to go with it. You're welcome.
