I ordered using doordash the order attached and I received all the pork belly soups without the protein (pork belly). I called the restaurant and they said nothing they could do about, they didn’t even propose a solution for their mistake. Very poor customer service and the food was not even good. Very disappointed.

This would have been a better review had our entrees come out together. Any decent restaurant know to serve the entees together.
The food was good otherwise. Only order the spicy coconut shrimp if you like spicy.
The pork belly is definitely an interesting dish worth trying.
The ceviche is very good. I would recommend it.
The Umami Sushi roll that is really interesting too. I've never had Apple on a sushi roll and I think I like it.
To be honest except for having to wait for one entree 15 minutes after the other entree came out I would have recommended this place. Very unique tastes.

Sat outside in the beautiful weather. Food was delicious and served quickly. Staff was wonderful and friendly. Highly recommend the slow roasted pork belly.

Our server wasn't very attentive. She also seemed very bothered when we had requests. I felt rushed. It was ny great niece's birthday and they gave her a slice of cheesecake as we were getting ready to leave and the happy birthday in chocolate on the plate was very sub par. The flounder was seasoned well and the Philly roll sushi was pretty good. May try again, of so hoping the waitress will be better. The table bussers were pretty friendly though.

The service could’ve been better- they messed up my order twice. First I ordered nigiri but they gave me (and charged me for) sashimi, then when they offered to fix it they gave me the wrong nigiri. I spent about $100, and despite the food being decent, unfortunately the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Servers were hard to locate to fix the situation, and after the second time I couldn’t bother because I just wanted to eat. The restaurant has the potential to be great… but isn’t there yet.

I’ve gotten burnt by wait time a couple of times by this restaurant, but this is by far the worst. Estimated 10-15 minute wait time turns into 1 hour and the food is still not ready. Staff walking right past me and telling me “5-10 more mins” every single time.

Never eating here again and never recommending this restaurant to anyone ever.

Great atmosphere, in the heart of the Trussville entertainment district where there is live music and events which is at the doorstep of this restaurant.

Placed a pick up order online and picked it up at the quoted pick up time. The chicken yakitori was cold, gross. The 50/50 pork dumplings had little to no flavor. Disappointing spending $16 to get cold food. Not the first time this has happened.

We went to visit friends at Ferus this past Saturday night. We had no intentions of eating at Umami, but my wife saw multiple people come out with to go bags and we decided to order 4 rolls (about $101 after tip).

Long story short, I checked on our food after about 30-35 minutes, and the host said it wasn’t ready after looking at the one bag on the counter.

I check back roughly 15 minutes later, and still nothing (you would think the host would go check to give me an update, but no).

Then I went back a third time, and I was told by the male host, he thinks they are bagging it up, so I went and sat in the waiting room chairs thinking we would have our food and could head home almost an hour away.

Maybe 10-15 minutes after that, he approached me and said I’m so sorry, your ticket was lost and he is just now getting it. Do you want to wait or a refund? I said refund. He walked me over to the bar where I met the female bartender took my order. She starts tapping away, and I brought up “what was the failure, do yall not check on excessively long waiters” she doesn’t even acknowledge that I spoke to her. At the end she finally said something along the lines of it should be reversed and go back to your credit card. No apology. I turned and walked off. As I’m walking out the host that lied to me about it being bagged up tried to say something, and I kept walking since he already lied having my family basically hang out for an extra 30-40 minutes and have nothing to show for it. Good job Umami 👏🏻 super professional experience.

My pet peeve Is walking on a sticky floor, throughout the restaurant almost turned around. Food was decent, we had 3 rolls, 3 tacos, the 2 dumplings and calamari. I would say 60/40 on the food. The unami roll was delicious as was the beef bulgogi tacos. 2nd issue, was presented the total of the bill on a handheld, the total, we weren't given a bill with items broken down, just to trust it is all correct. Our server was very good

Excellent food, excellent service. Visited here a few days ago and was sad to learn the staff are a week behind in pay. Hopefully the owners step up, otherwise we probably won’t return.
