I come here often and always have a great experience. The staff is very friendly. The food is delicious. The margaritas are amazing! It is really hard to find more authentic Mexican food in the south, but this place is spot-on. If you are visiting town or if you are a resident of Tuscaloosa, this is a must! Very fun vibe and good music too.
I’ve been here several times. I think they deserve a higher rating than ~4. The restaurant space is not new, not very clean. But their food and service were always very good, much better than many of the fast food Mexican restaurants around.
If you are looking for exceptional tasting Mexican cuisine in Tuscaloosa, then Don Tonos is NOT the place to go. I had chips, salsa, queso and guacamole dip. Also, street tacos and a tamale. The salsa was very bland like it had too much water in it, the tamale was obviously reheated and tough, the tamale sauce was bland. The street tacos were decent except the flour tortilla shell was most likely heated up in a microwave and not in a hot skillet like it's supposed to be....
