new year's eve, 5:15pm- it took the waiter quite a while to get to us despite it not being very busy (throughout the meal he seemed more concerned about hanging out at the bar than attending to us). 30 minutes into dinner service and they were already out of the fish tacos (i assume they didn't even have them to begin with but neglected to tell the front of the house staff). after a considerable wait we got our food- the burger was over cooked and as dry as a hockey puck, the fries were way beyond too salty, and the $36 fish and chips were under seasoned and didn't even come with their signature side salad. next time we want to spend $70 on dinner for two we'll definitely be going somewhere else.
When my lunch was served today, I saw why it was not busy at high noon. Very, very disappointing. Macaroni and cheese and the baked beans had to have been left over from a day or so ago -- and they were not hot. Not even warm. Fried chicken was good. Very pricey for a poor product-- and I went home hungry. So did my companion. The server did a good job, and was apologetic. I didn't see anyone appearing to be in charge to address with the issue. We will not be back.
They made my coworker something that wasn't on their menu. They just looked it up and made it. Plus they were open when it was super cold and icy.

Delicious cold brew coffee, amazing decor and vibe. Feels very cozy with gorgeous, creaky, antique hardwood floors and wooden carved onlays. Very unique, artistic decorations hang from the walls. A plush loveseat sits over by the window. There's almost always a gorgeous dog sitting somewhere. Everyone I've met who works here is friendly and makes terrific coffee drinks. It's my favorite place in Tuscaloosa to get coffee.

Delicious food. I got the steak, my wife got the salad with steak on top. Fun atmosphere. Prices very reasonable. If they have it get the bread pudding!
The atmosphere was super great! We were there during lunch so it was nice and quiet! My fish sandwich was great but could have used tartar sauce. My daughter order the cheeseburger she was dissatisfied, but the fries were amazing! We should have just ordered the fries!! Their menu is super small:) The service was good!
Renowned as possibly the finest eatery in Tuscaloosa we were eager to visit and sample the food. An interesting and creative approach, only offering 5 things to choose from. We went for the Ribeye steaks, three plates each cooked differently ranging from well done to medium to rare. All came perfectly cooked as requested. The accompanying salad was superb, a very original mix including nuts and fruits. Decent little wine list of 5 whites and 5 reds, we went for the fabulous "Bonanza" Cabernet Sauvignon and it was very good, smooth and elegant. Everything positive and interesting so far, so what are the negatives of Five Bar? - The place is full of cooking smells and odours! You leave and your clothes smell badly of cooking, everything from each of us went into the wash afterwards. - Service, whilst polite and professional, was very slow from arrival to placing the order. Arrival attentiveness needs improving. - Restrooms could be better, wet floor and smelled like they need a good thorough cleaning.
Great presentation and enjoyed everything that we ordered
The food was great. Only five entrees and five apps. We had mozzerella sticks and i had the pork chop. Fabulous and my partner had a steak he said one of the best he has had.. the bartender Hannah really made the evening and the atmosphere is divine.. just fun chandeliers and brick walls. Worth checking out!
We ate at 5’s while visiting our daughters on parent’s weekend. It’s simple and good. Try the pineapple jalapeño margarita. Bloody Mary’s are yummy. Same owner of Harbor Dock’s in Destin and Chuck’s in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

For a place that serves only 5 main dishes, I would expect them to be perfect. My burger was dry and flavorless. The meat did not feel like good quality/ fresh. Service was fine.
Very cool atmosphere and architecture. Connected to a restaurant, but a solid coffee operation nonetheless
Great food, great service!
This was earlier in the week. Sometimes you just want a great steak. Five didn’t disappoint. It has been around a while now. I’m not even certain how long. Maybe twenty years? I remember our going long ago and being surprised by the simple menu and the excellent drinks. The Prose’, an instant hit. Anything with St. Germain has to be good. Plus it came with an edible, organic rose petal floating in the glass. A nice touch. The food selections, limited as they are, hence the name, are well made and delightful. The ribeye is seasoned well and served with perfect, crunchy fries and a delicious salad. The baked avocado appetizer is a surprising treat if you’ve never ordered one. The restaurant has eclectic folk art intermixed with an industrial warehouse feel. The decor is complimented by a staggering arrangement of life size prints of local color. Bear and Saban watch the scene from their larger than life photos on the massive walls. The bar is well stocked and well tended. Occasionally there’s live music. You look around and see a Phifer or a Harrison enjoying the atmosphere. There’s always an interesting mix of people. It reminds me of long ago when you’d go out to a place and see folks you know or at least knew who they were. Rare today. You’d laugh and talk and eat and drink in as close to a New Orleans experience as Tuscaloosa has to offer. If you have room, really even if you don’t, a bread pudding completes the experience. It’s so, so very scrumptious if slightly undersized. I guess they want you to order two but one is just barely enough to satisfy as you both at the end the meal. You leave smiling and saying hello on the way out to a friend or client or someone you may have not seen in a long time. They are there. It’s just the kind of place people go and enjoy one of the best places in town. Five delivers that old Tuscaloosa feel that existed decades ago in places long gone now. The Prose’ no longer comes with the organic, edible rose petal but hey, that’s just fine. It’s a great time.
This has been my go to "office" lately. The wifi is amazing and the coffee is great. I usually will come and work on my laptop for several hours (they close at 3pm).
