Our first experience at Half Shell was wonderful so we expected a return visit would be the same. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. My husband ordered Mai Mai that was a very over cooked $31 piece of fish. We ordered cinnamon roll bread pudding "to go". We tried the bread pudding as soon as we got home but it was completely burnt and inedible. I think we will not be returning. The bill was definitely too high for the quality of the food we had this evening.

Tuscaloosa Al. What's up? What a way to serve a 1st time customer. In my book, 1st time impressions are everything! "The Oyster House" to me was nothing less than amazing! If you are a seafood person, this is the place for you to enjoy a variety of seafood. 😋 I will say one more thing, I enjoyed everything from the food, atmosphere, service, and waitress/waiter. Great place 👌 a must try!

Great experience, great food and service

If I could give zero stars I would. TERRIBLE. Terrible management, terrible waitress, terrible hostess. If you could avoid this place, please do. We had a party of 12 for a birthday celebration. We arrived 30 minutes before our entire party showed up. We still waited an additional three hours before we were finally seated. And that was because we kept asking the hostess how much longer it was going to take. Our party was not able to sit together so we were given two different servers. The first table received Dodson as their waiter and he was AWESOME! The only person in the restaurant who had some common sense and hospitality towards us. Our waitress was Erica and she was disrespectful, unapologetic, and inconsiderate. After finally receiving our food after one hour which is ridiculous, being that there wasn’t anyone in the restaurant. We requested to have our food to-go. We had now been in this restaurant for a total of 5 hours. By this time, we are irritated and hungry. She was unapologetic and did not seem to care that we waited so long to have our food. We asked for management, Rae Jenkins. He was also rude and unapologetic. Birthday celebration ruined. Do not dine here! Take your money elsewhere. 0/10!

I've been to HSOHa few times and was pretty pleased. Just don't dare go at 9:45 Friday night because there will be no host, nobody will greet you or assist you or so much as look your way. I even sat myself at a table in the bar area and waited to no avail. Got up and walked out still with not so much as a, "were you helped?" It's a no for me now.

Went to dinner with family and friends. Peyton assisted us in food recommendations and each recommendation was fantastic. Will definitely be back. After living in Pensacola, Miami, and Gulf Shores the seafood presented at the table was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Upon our visit to Tuscaloosa Alabama, we wanted to try out local restaurants. When going to Half Shells we were expecting to experience what the locals told us to be a desirable choice of dinning, unfortunately that was not our experience. We placed an appetizer order and 20 minutes later we placed our main dish orders. At the time we ordered the main dishes the appetizer still had not been delivered. When our dinner salads had been served (menus side order choice for meal) we still had not received our appetizer order. Our server noticed that we had not received our appetizer and said she would go put in the order in again. We told her not to worry about it and just cancel it. Thereafter, the manager then came by to apologizes, to which she seemed sincere about. At that time, I explained that in addition to our appetizer order not having been put in by the wait staff the salad lettuce was wilted, as if it had been sitting in the hot kitchen for the extended duration of time that we had been waiting for it. I honestly thought the manager was trying to remedy the situation when apologizing. After which She offered to comp our meal, yet I personally was not comfortable with that as we are not free loaders, and I told her she would need to discuss the matter with my husband. Her response was “at least let me take care of your beverages.” I again asked her to please discuss the matter with my husband as I did not want to give the impression of seeking a free meal. Being that my husband had stepped away, upon his return she, the manager, had brought fried crab claws saying that it was a peace offering then telling my husband that she would like to comp our meal. My husband said that was fine. When my husband and I finished eating, we again sat waiting for a while before the server returned and my husband asked for the check. The manager never came by to say anything any further. We paid the tab… my husband was even kind enough to have tipped the server and we left. After all of this and the obvious confusion of multiple beverages at once , besides the one that was already served to us, there obviously was a major lack of communication amongst the staff at Half Shells and it is certainly something that should be strengthened. In addition to all of this, when having to use the lady's restroom, from my own observation, it looked as though someone had been in the middle of cleaning and just gave up, leaving a gallon size bottle of cleaner on its side in front of the sink basins and toilet paper littering all over the floors. Our overall experience of Half shells was not the greatest and I personally would not recommend dining there.

Oyster sample platter was disappointing. They were very small and over cooked. The Oyster was not much bigger than a raising. The flavor of seasoning was good but that all it really was
