We stopped for breakfast before the Bama game. What a cool old breakfast spot. Tight seating inside but the service was really good. Real country breakfast food. The country ham and biscuits were delicious. The fried taters were really good to. Authentic country cooking at its finest.
We went to Wayside recently, had a great server, J.J., he was very attentive, not overbearing! The food was terrific that day and it is such a local gem, can't beat it. We had lunch, but breakfast is great, too!
Homestyle meals in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Looking to experience some deep south culture, I ordered the “streak o’ lean”, grits, brown gravy, and biscuits with my eggs. My server was amused by my having to ask, “What is this?” Streak o’ lean mimics bacon, but is actually fat back sliced then fried (the streak that is a shade darker is/was the meat, AKA lean); it tastes like pure salt, so have a glass of water ready! Brown gravy is made from breakfast meat...
