Best diner I've ever been to. These Grannies really know how to cook. Eggs were perfect, hash browns perfect balance of crispy and soft, fluffy biscuit, the fried okra had a perfect crunch and wasn't soggy with grease, the mac-n-cheese was so rich and cheesey. Sweet and wholesome atmosphere.

UPDATE 11/20/25: I left another message last week, this time on the answering machine & still no one has called me back!!

I was in town there for a wedding & had breakfast here on 10/18/2025. Going through my bank statement recently, I noticed I was charged 2 times. Once without the tip & the second time with the tip. I called early last week once I noticed it & someone was supposed to call me back & never did. I just want them to make this right. The food was good at least, but a breakfast croissant & shredded potatoes & a drink were not worth the $31.74 that it ended up costing me! Therefore, I am only giving one star. I will update if anyone ever calls me back!

Skip the overrated pancake places and come down here to Granny's when you're downtown! Very reasonably priced breakfast with amazing biscuits! If we'd had the time we would have come more than once!

Very Disappointing and Unwelcoming Experience

My husband and I were excited to try Granny’s Kitchen, but our experience was extremely disappointing and unwelcoming. We stood at the “Wait to Be Seated” sign for about 10 minutes while several staff members walked past us, staring and whispering, but no one greeted us or said, “We’ll be right with you.” When we finally asked if someone could seat us, a woman who appeared to be the manager simply pointed and said, “You can have a seat right over there” — indicating the chairs in the waiting area, even though there were plenty of empty tables available.

We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and stayed, but as we sat waiting, the staff continued to walk by, whispering and avoiding eye contact. There were still many open tables — including one right in front of us — and no line behind or in front of us, yet no one came to serve us or even acknowledge we were there. The entire atmosphere felt dismissive and unwelcoming.

Ultimately, we left because it became clear we were not going to be served. Sadly, as people of color, the lack of acknowledgment and hospitality felt discriminatory. We also noticed that all of the staff were white and there were no people of color working or dining there while we were present.

If you want good food and to feel valued as a customer, I recommend skipping this place and heading down the sidewalk to The Ohio Club — they treated us kindly, had great prices, and offered excellent service.

We came here on a Saturday morning because the Pancake shop down the street had a 45 minute wait. Food was very good. Very nice staff. Would recommend.

First of all, Rebecca was really a sweetie from beginning to end, absolutely great service!! Such a nice time visiting w her. I was a lil worried when we walked in as only 1 table in there but boy did the place fill up fast! Food was delicious from the cheesy hash browns w ham to the biscuits w sausage gravy. My husband makes the best but when we travel, he is always looking for biscuits and gravy, he’s never happy w it. SURPRISED—he loved granny’s sausage gravy and has been in the best mood all day w his craving getting beyond satisfied. Huge portions of hash browns cooked to w the perfect crispness to them.

Alert: they are closing their downtown location and moving into Higden Ferry Cafe on higden ferry. So go there and ask for Rebecca for great service, happy attitude, to go along with the best breakfast in town!
