I had the fried chicken dinner with grilled squash, fried squash, and mashed potatoes with gravy. While it was good, my biggest compliment was that NOTHING was seasoned. I had to salt everything. The service was great. Our server brought us a sample of the chicken and dumplings that was the daily special...completely free. I will be back the next time I am in Arkansas.
So good. Real food with real flavor. Wonderful fried chicken, chicken fried steak where the flavor of the beef is the star of the show, REAL mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh flavorful fried okra, yummy brown beans, cornbread how it is meant to be. This is what home-style cooking should taste like - because with good old country cooking, everything must be high quality. You cannot hide poor quality or less than fresh in this style of food -- and this place does it right!
It’s worth the 10-minute drive from the interstate to eat at Neal’s Cafe. It’s one of the good home-cooking places like Wagon Wheel in Greenbrier. \n\nI got the Thursday plate special, which is turkey and dressing, with 1 vegetable ($12.99). I got fried okra. It was the closest thing to homemade fried okra that I’ve found at a restaurant in years.\n\nThe generous portion of turkey and dressing was very good. I was disappointed that they don’t offer sweet potato casserole....
