I love the aesthetic of the interior of the restaurant. It has a lot of history and you can see that the benches are really old and have a lot of people that have scratched their names on them. I didn't like the impersonal self-checkout touch screen in order to order my meal and they only had one person in the back cooking all the food. She did her best to be efficient but my burger was slightly charred but still a very good burger at 4 stars. My fried mushrooms and housemade ranch were definitely 5 star! Perfect cooked, seasoned and delicious! Plus it was a good amount of mushrooms without skipping on the portion size. Overall I will give them another try but I'd say get more staff and put a friendly face up front instead of the impersonal touch screen self ordering.

So sad to see the old mesquite grill and build your own topping bar removed. The old school (NAU) home fries, mesquite charbroiled beef patties and self serve fixins is what made this place unique for so many years. Now it is just another burger joint with no distinct flavor different from anywhere else really. The atmosphere is still cool, staff is friendly, just miss the original tastes that kept us coming back and bringing friends and family to share in the experience.
You can still get an old school (ASU) mesquite burger at the Chuck Box in Tempe. Surrounded by development now, that place still stands and delivers on the nostalgic flavors.

I’m ok to spend money on good food and/or atmosphere. The atmosphere was fine but it took 40 minutes to get 2 burnt, dry burgers and a hot dog. Less than half of the tables were occupied so the wait time and poor food quality was surprising. We’ll go elsewhere next time.

These burgers are HUGE and high quality! The bacon they use is extremely good, nice and thick and very tasty! I was impressed. The portion sizes are quite large. I even mentioned to my wife if you leave this place hungry, that's your fault for not eating anything.
There are 5 other tables in here besides the two of us. We ordered 25 minutes ago and there are still two numbers in front of us. The ask for a tip up front when you pay and my husband gave them one. I wish I could ask for it back. This is ridiculous. With 4.1 stars already, you would think the owners would care and try the make it better or be here to help if the staff can't keep up. Also the new fries aren't good and they got rid of mushrooms

Use to come here a lot, but on my recent visit the burger flavor was off, very few fries and they removed the burger bar with many condiment options. Of course the cost to eat here also went up. Some pinhead owner thought it was a good idea to cut costs apparently. Won’t be coming back.
