Best ribs in town, although unfortunately they switched their cut to St. Louis style -- I like the whole thing with the joints and extra flap of meat. The jambalaya is excellent. Alas, the gumbo is based on brown roux: as far as I'm concerned it's not really gumbo without okra.

Passing through Flagstaff and struck gold finding this place for lunch. Sooo good! Shrimp po’ boy was the best I’ve had in years. Brisket and pulled pork was delicious. Mac & cheese and baked beans were amazing. It’s a small place, but has good atmosphere. Wish we lived nearby so we could try more of their menu.

This is going to be a long one. I heard great things and came with a decent sized group. Most things were family style and we shared and enjoyed.
The thing I enjoyed the least was the slaw, but I'm more of a creamy slaw guy, others in my group said positive things, and even I didn't mind the slaw.
We tried the beans and rice, and I thought they were excellent. We tried the blackened fish, and that too was excellent (noticing a pattern).
If I wanted to nit pick the sweet potato fries could have been a little saltier (but were still good). The tater tots however were exceptional.
I could go on and on, so I will. The brisket texture was great and the flavor was good. The ribs both texture and flavor were exceptional. I tried each sauce and ended up finishing the ribs without.
Even my 9 year old commented on the high quality of the kids meal.
Just wow!
So with that we ended up paying about $25 per person. It wasn't cheap, but in 2025 dollars I think it was well worth it for generous portions and such tasty food.

Love it! We were paying though town and thought “how did this end up here”?
Our family got a wide range - jambalaya, catfish PO boy, pulled pork sliders, tater tots & catfish bites.
It was all good - and spicing had a personal touch - it’s all made in house, cold smoked spices, etc - oddly enough, the tater tots were a stand out surprise!
The background is that the owner spent a lot of time in Louisiana, fell in love with the cuisine, and ending up making the place based on the passion. It’s clearly made with love; I’d get in here and see how it speaks to you.
Service is super simple and laid back - seat yourself, order at the counter, serve yourself drinks. Food comes out quick and hot. Paper plates handy for sharing with others at your table. The space is small and cozy.
I didn’t think to take pics of the dishes, but others have. Bon appetite!

My family ordered the pork ribs, dirty rice, and cornbread. Ribs were fall off the bone and smoked to perfection. Dirty rice was some of the best I’ve ever tasted plus had a nice little kick to it. For dessert what better than a mouthwatering piece of cornbread! This is a hidden gem of Flagstaff and is for anyone who loves your classic barbecue spot.

Satchmo's is the best! Great brisket, Phenomenal tots. And that bread pudding with the lemon drizzle is a revelation! And the service was outstanding. Can't wait till I'm in Flagstaff again!

The best place we ate on our road trip round America. Super friendly staff, and more importantly fantastic food. So good we planned our trip to then go back the next night. We ate the beef slider (must try), chicken sliders, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and tater tots. All were fantastic

I’m in the middle of a road trip around the country and stopped in for takeout. The service was friendly, but this is some of the worst “bbq” I've ever had. All of the meats they have taste way too dry without flavor. It’s either overcooked and they don’t know how to smoke brisket, or they reheat it throughout the week and it isn’t fresh.
The sauces were decent but are on the very sweet side. The Mac and cheese tasted bland. I wouldn’t have left a review if it wasn’t so expensive either. I’m upset I paid $40 for 1/2 pound of brisket and mac and cheese. I got ripped off. This is isn’t real BBQ
