This place is BEYOND! any Mexican restaurant. Been driving by it for months. Always busy. Only bad news is that they raised the bar so high, any other Mexican restaurant BBQ will not even come close. The man at the counter Alejandro was very helpful making suggestions. Highly recommended! we'll be back for sure.

I ate here for the first time last night and it did not disappoint. The counter staff were very friendly and patient as i asked questions. Tyey offered me a sample of the briskets and their elote. The food was excellent. I had two brisket tacos and one Birria taco with a side of macaroni and cheese. The brisket was tender and juicy. The portion they served was not disappointing. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and cheesy. They have their own sauces and they were very good. Definitely try the mustard and the sweet & spicy. I will definitely be back.

We tried a variety of tacos from the menu. All were very good. The brisket taco was flavorful and large. The birria tacos were not too greasy. The sauces that they have to choose from were all good. Not much indoor seating, but most of the outdoor seating is in the shade.

I don’t really care where Caldwell County is, the good people of Gilbert are lucky to have it here. We stopped in for dinner tonight, intrigued by what Mexi-Q might portend. Reader, it portends tender, flavorful brisket goodness bathed in birria.
A small shop, you order at the counter and watch your meal come together. Do not sleep on the staff’s suggestions. My wife had the birria taco as well as the green chile taco at their suggestion and it did not disappoint. I had the brisket burrito and Madre Santa Mia, what a delight. The aforementioned tender, flavorful brisket was clothed in a homemade tortilla that held the goodness inside together like a champ. The refried beans were creamy and delicious. The pico added just the right crunch and zest. The onions, which so often overtake everything, were subtle. This was a banger of a burrito. The House BBQ sauce enhanced every bite with just a hint of sweetness.
Sat outside and it was delightful. A couple members of the staff came around to each table to see how everything was. Friendly folks.
Totally worth a return visit.

THE BRISKET!!!! If you eat nothing else, get the burrito brisket.
Flavor bomb!
Super friendly and quick service. Casual, picnic table style eatery. Great Fun.
We just moved from the east coast and had never experienced Mexican BBQ...we have been missing out on a cuisine that is truly phenomenal.
Busy on weekends, so hit it up on a week night.

Caldwell County Mexi-Q has been my go to BBQ joint in the valley ever since discovering it earlier this year.
While I have been to their sister location before, the Mexi-Q concept at this location is what really sets it apart. Texas BBQ and mexican food are a match made in heaven - and this place does it great! The BBQ is always well cooked and seasoned, and with using that great BBQ as a base, they're able to create something really special in their tacos, burritos, and tostadas. In addition, with the flexibility to pick either classic BBQ or Mexi-Q - this restaurant can really appease to a wide audience!
The Food:
To me, consistency is one of the hardest things to achieve at restaurants - and that goes doubly so for BBQ which is very time consuming and can vary from cut to cut of meat. Caldwell is one of the few BBQ places that is extremely consistent - and it really shows with the meat they deliver. Brisket has always been my favorite cut of BBQ meat, and Caldlwell's is excellent. However, while I've ordered their brisket by itself here before - my favorite item's on their menu are their brisket birria tacos and their brisket tacos. The brisket tacos are super well balanced, with the fatty and flavorful meat being cut well with the acidity from the sauce and toppings. The brisket birria tacos are super rich and flavorful, with the meat making these my favorite birria tacos of any restaurant. The green chili mac is also superb, being both very cheesy and flavorful yet taking advantage of the flavor and kick from the chilis.
The Experience:
While the ordering counter is small with the line oftentimes out the door, Caldwell County Mexi-Q takes advantage of the small piece of land they're on and optimizes the space well. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with the bulk of it being outdoors, which while slightly uncomfortable in the hot summers, is well cooled with their misters and allows for lots of seating in an open space.
What I really like is how they display all of their smokers on-site. It's always a great sign when a BBQ joint has their smokers on full display - and the amount they have here is awesome and it's clear that they're proud of it!
Overall:
If you're looking for great BBQ in the area - look no further! Excellent BBQ and Mexi-Q with great sides and friendly people. A real gem in Gilbert!

Had the barria and smoked carnitas tacos they were made perfect. The pinto beans were tender cooked perfect. The smoked Mac n cheese is a must have. The staff were super cool to deal with. For some great BBQ it was affordable as well. I would have taken pics but honestly it smelled so good that was the last thing on my mind.
