I was excited to try their Hawaiian food so I picked this spot The food was tasty! , and the staff were friendly and attentive. However, my enthusiasm was dampened by the staggering amount of plastic used.
Title: Good food, disappointing plastic footprint š“
I recently visited this Hawaiian restaurant and was excited to try their local flavors. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. However, my enthusiasm was dampened by the staggering amount of plastic used.
Every single item, whether dine-in or takeout, came in non-biodegradable containers and plastic cutlery. Yes, your plastic boxes are the stuffed into plastics bags for you to literally turn and sit and eat them. Why all that packaging to eat in the store?? š. As someone who cares about the environment, this was a major letdown.
As you obviously know Hawaiis commitment to sustainability and preserving its natural beauty is powerful on the island. The islands' efforts to reduce plastic waste and protect marine life are admirable, making this restaurant's excessive plastic use even more disappointing.
If you're looking for a tasty meal, this spot might fit the bill and I wonāt mark it down for this but Just be prepared for the environmental trade-off. Hopefully, you rethink some easy packaging choices soon and follow that commitment to the environment. š.

I love Ono Hawaiian BBQ, especially their mac salad, but this visit was unnecessarily frustrating.
My husbandās credit cards would not work in-store, and he was told the only options were to pay cash or order online. When we both separately tried ordering online, it didnāt allow the same customization options that are available in person, nor would it take credit cards. I wanted a specific number of scoops of mac salad - not a small, medium, or large, since the price differences are significant.
Because of this, my husband had to leave, come pick me up from another store, and drive all the way back so I could pay with cash just to order. It turned into a much bigger hassle than it should have been.
If I lived nearby, I probably would have left. But since I live in Texas and really wanted mac salad for the road, we pushed through.
The food itself was still good, but the payment and ordering limitations made the experience far more frustrating than necessary.

TLDR: The food is isnāt bad, and if you are in the area, try it out. But if you have time, there are better Hawaiian BBQ places a couple miles west.
We now have 3 Hawaiian BBQ places in the Arrowhead area. We first visited Ono at the height of COVID and thought it was good with generous portions (as we ate our food in the car). We decided to return recently to try it again. They have a drive through as well as a clean, modern dining area, and an east side patio. We found the dining room to be LOUD from either the air handler or the soda machine, and the kitchen, and the music. They have tropical drinks as well as a soda machine with Coke products. You can serve yourself katsu and teriyaki sauce. Their menu has typical Hawaiian BBQ fare. We ordered at the counter and sat in the dining area. We were the only people in the dining room, but when our food was ready, the young lady at the counter looked us in the eye and called our name rather than bringing us our food. Sometimes it is the small things that make a place⦠We moved to the patio so we could converse without yelling over the noise.
I ordered the Chicken Combo (katsu and BBQ chicken) and my wife got the Island Fire chicken plate. I thought the katsu was good. Nicely crisp on the outside and it definitely tasted better with the katsu sauce. The BBQ chicken was good, but it was also obvious that it was dark meat and there was a lot of fat on my serving. We donāt mind dark meat, but usually the fat is trimmed or cooked off.
My wife didnāt enjoy her Island Fire Chicken. She thought that the spicy sauce tasted mostly of the pepper seasoning and didnāt have good flavor.
The one thing that really separated Ono from the other places in the area was the āvegetablesā on the plate. Their menu pictures show Broccoli and cabbage. What we got was cabbage. Lots of cabbage. In fact, half of what we had on our plate was cabbage, including the rice and macaroni salad. As for the macaroni, it had little flavor other than mayo. I know that Hawaiian pasta salad is mostly mayo, but it usually has a little more flavor than what we got.
Their price is inline with the other choices in the area, but for what we got, Iād rather drive the extra two miles and get better food.

Shrimp was good, BBQ chicken was so-so. Portions are big, even in the small size.

Customer service is not a thing. You will be accused of lying if you disagree with your order not being correct. Cameras will supposedly be reviewed to ensure things are done correctly, even if you never leave the drive-through line yet will try to say it is you and not them.
Great atmosphere but not overdone. Has TV's and is more a fast food meets dine in restaurant.
