Once You’ve Had the Best, You Don’t Want Second Best (Or Even Close to It)
I’ve been a loyal customer for about 9 years now. Before discovering Bikini Bean, I used to go to SB and DB, and I can honestly say I don’t remember those coffee shops having the kind of inconsistencies I’ve recently experienced.
I like bold, strong coffee, and after spending a lot of time in Europe and enjoying truly great coffee, my standards are high. That’s exactly why I’ve stayed so loyal to Bikini Bean over the years.
Over the last several months, I’ve started to feel like “that customer,” always mentioning that my coffee just isn’t as rich, bold, or full of flavor as it used to be. I’ve asked questions and shared my concerns, and at the Mesa location it’s been hit or miss.
That’s why I started visiting the Goodyear location on Pebble Creek Rd — and for the most part, it’s always been on point. The quality and consistency there have kept me coming back. However, over the last few days, even that location hasn’t quite been the same. I mentioned it, and while the drinks weren’t bad, they just weren’t what I’ve come to expect from Bikini Bean.
Recently, at the Peoria location, my drink was made by someone named Lawson (or Larson), and it was excellent. It reminded me exactly why I fell in love with Bikini Bean in the first place.
One visit really stood out to me. At the Peoria location, as I paid, I told them they could keep the change as a tip if the coffee was good. The young lady smiled and said, “I’ll make sure he does 28.” That moment stuck with me.
I’ve watched the process of making a proper espresso, and I believe every step matters — from properly dosing the grounds, leveling them, tamping evenly, to letting the shot pull for the full 21 to 28 seconds that Bikini Bean is known for. That timing isn’t random; it’s what creates the bold, smooth, full-bodied flavor.
Skipping steps may feel like it saves time, but it doesn’t if the drink has to be remade or if a customer walks away disappointed. Even the smallest details make a huge difference.
Lately, I’ve found myself seriously considering making my coffee at home. Not because I don’t like Bikini Bean, but because when you’ve experienced the best, it’s hard to keep coming back for anything less.
I know I’m just one customer, but this comes from a place of respect and loyalty. Consistency is what built my trust in Bikini Bean, and consistency is what keeps customers coming back.

The coffee tasted really good, the girls were nice, even tho it was a bit weird at first seeing them in bikinis. Only complaint that I have is the Male manager not also being in a bikini. Equality is important.
