Had drinks and bites with a friend at Board & Batten, and it was such a great experience. The wine and food were excellent, but the ambience and service truly set it apart—warm, welcoming, and just the right mix of upscale and relaxed. Can’t wait to go back!
Overall, a great place to eat. Service is fantastic. Drinks are done well. I had the steak and was cooked to my liking. However, the cut of meat was a little chewy and fatty, but aside from that the rest of the meal was very good.
I’d definitely recommend most of the dishes, especially the pasta.
Fantastic, well prepared food! Delish!
A very elegant venue and a rare gem of fine dining in Mesa. Best for special occasions IMHO but a nice change of pace if you're looking for a nice , more up-scale, dining experience.
I set up an 80th birthday for my Grandma while I live in California at Board and Batten. From the beginning to the end the team was so helpful and kind in making sure this was a special day.
From my grandma and her friends - they said the food was amazing (rec’d the steak and the pasta), service was great, and awesome atmosphere.
Thank you all again! 5/5 stars.

Wonderful
This restaurant is such a gem for the northern Mesa area. The building and trees around are beautiful. All the greenery makes me forget that I’m in the desert. A good amount space outside for evening outings. The interior is very nice and elegant without feeling over the top. The windows allow for a lot of natural lighting. The service was fantastic and everyone was attentive and kind.
The food was so delicious. I got the simple burger. It was cooked perfectly. The bun and produce were so fresh gave the burger a pleasant taste without feeling heavy with grease.

I only gave it 2 stars with categories falling into 4 stars. The original was very much different than the current locations still decent service the hamburger I had was fantastic but I'm not sure if it was worth the $22 I was charged. For me I do enjoy modern but it was a little too open and loud to hold a 1 on 1 conversation with my friend who needed to talk. He was not happy with her French dip which was rather bland and thin her husband's like the dessert. I would not go back rather going to Red Robin or a local mom and pops for a better burger at a lower price. Menu for both meals and dessert is very limited and expensive.

REVIEW IS FOR SATURDAY LUNCH: I love dining here for dinner, it's the best upscale/organic restaurant in the area. However...went for the first time for lunch and was very disappointed with the menu.
Being they source from local farms and try and use organic as much as they can, I was saddened to see burgers and hot sandwiches as their main lunch items, with the exception of chicken pot pie, which is odd for hot Arizona right now.
I would think the following could be offered:
- a couple of flatbreads (Margherita, fig with goat cheese, pepperoni)
- charcuterie boards
- breakfast items (breakfast sandwich, omelet, pancakes/waffles/crepes)
- vegan pasta (w/ options to add a protein for $)
- BLT+A
A couple of older ladies came in and I heard them say they thought they would have something other than sandwiches and decided to stay but weren't happy with the menu.
Just odd for their dinners are unique yet lunch was very boring and not appealing. At least I know now what they serve for lunch and will only come here for dinner.
EDIT: I updated this was for a Saturday lunch, I understand weekday sandwiches and hamburgers are the norm however on a Saturday I'd rather eat something not a sandwich. Hopefully in the future Saturday can feature something like that.

Board & Batten: A Mixed Bag of Delicious and Disappointing
3 out of 5 stars
Board & Batten held such promise! The ambiance was lovely - tasteful and welcoming, even better than their Instagram reels. We were excited to finally try this neighborhood gem, especially with the rave reviews from friends. Sadly, the service really tainted what could have been an amazing experience.
We were greeted warmly by the hostess, but then things took a downturn. Veronica, who we later learned was the general manager, checked us in and was surprisingly rude. With plenty of open tables both inside and out (it was a mild September evening), we were flexible with seating. However, Veronica seemed annoyed we didn't have a reservation and told us it would be a 15-20 minute wait for an inside table, dismissing the possibility of sitting outside.
Thankfully, our experience at the bar was much better. Tristen, the bartender, was friendly and made a delicious Bramble cocktail. He engaged in pleasant conversation, which was a welcome contrast to our initial interaction.
When our table was ready, we were invited to close our tab at the bar and oddly reminded that we couldn't transfer it to our table. Our server, Josue, was unfortunately the epitome of inattentive. He was consistently absent, forcing us to flag down the water server multiple times to place orders and ask questions. Every course was delayed due to his lack of presence. We even had to go back to the bar to order wine, where Tristen helpfully assured us he could transfer the charges to our table. The menu was notably outdated as the Pinot Noir we were looking forward to trying, was no longer offered -- the management forgot to reprint menus with accurate reflection of the sub par Willamette Pinot replacing the wine advertised.
Despite the service hiccups, the food was good. We enjoyed the sweet rolls, the Caesar salad, the cacio e lemon with grilled chicken, and the chocolate souffle. My husband was especially keen to try their dessert, and although it took Josue 20 minutes to return to take our order after dropping off the menu, the souffle was a satisfying end to the meal.
When we asked for a manager to express our concerns, we discovered it was Veronica. We were told she was too busy to speak with us and we left.
Ultimately, Board & Batten is a mixed bag. The ambiance and food were great, but the service, particularly from the general manager and our server, was a huge disappointment. For a comparable dining experience with better service, we'll likely stick to restaurants a bit further afield or just stay closer to home in Las Sendas. Hopefully, Board & Batten will address these service issues and live up to its full potential.

Beautiful location, set back from the road and nestled under big, old trees. The patio is great when the weather is nice. The service is always excellent and the food is so good.
Kid-friendliness: I wouldn't take my kids but kids would be welcome, I don't know if they have a kids menu
