Waited 30 minutes when I was quoted 15. I had brought my baby and wife out for a nice dinner and instead I will never be returning here. On top of which they told me unless you have a reservation, you cannot sit on the outside patio just an fyi, very unaccommodating would not recommend this restaurant.

Dont make the mistake of showing up on a weekend without a reservation.
We spent $70 per person and left hungry. We to another restaurant right after.

Wonderful little oasis at a location where you would not expect a restaurant. Great food, attention to detail and friendly service.

I’ve been there several times. I was very disappointed in the lobster bisque it came almost room temperature the steak I ordered the steak I said a little pink it came out almost seared, the texture wasn’t there because rawness it also came out slightly warm. Thank god it had to be cooked more so I can eat it a higher temperature. My wife and daughter’s pasta also came out slightly warm. They also ran out of tea and I didn’t get a refill. It seems that they need a kitchen manager not a person who is helping out front. If someone came and asked me how was everything I would’ve told them instead of writing this review. For 3 people and a toddler the total bill including tip and with no drinks was $216 for slightly warm food. I suggest you higher a kitchen manager. Very disappointed visit compared to previous visits. I usually take food to go at times and the food was warmer when I got home than this visit. I have to rethink my next visit if there is any, especially at this price range.
Disappointed customer

I do not write reviews, but now I do. We come here a few times a year during winter visits for the food and lovely patio. I cannot understand how this place continues on with the disagreeable and sour owner or manager. Vicky/Victoria? I can deal with such things. However, once my wife and guests get a whiff of it, the proverbial gloves are off. This was our last visit.

Sweet Spot Find: This was a great way to start off our first visit to Mesa. The atmosphere was perfect for a dinner for two...romantically lit patio dining area + a cozy indoor dining area with an inviting bar. Our server, Yusef, made it more special by offering us sparkling wine because our food was taking some time. We shared the Lemon Caesar salad which was nicely dressed and topped with shaved parmesan and crunchy bread crumbs. For the entrees, we ordered the steak which was cooked as requested medium rare with a side of white beans and sauteéd vegetables, and the pasta special of the day, Porchetta and Octopus Rigatoni which had a creamy fagiole sauce. Both were delicious and enjoyable. We were too full for dessert...will have to wait until the next time we are in Mesa. If you're in Mesa and are looking for a high value restaurant, we recommend Board & Batten.

I made a 12pm reservation for Valentine’s Day brunch with my husband. We arrived at 11:53 and weren’t seated until well after 12. The restaurant wasn’t busy, there were several empty tables, and guests who arrived after us were seated before we were.
After being seated, we weren’t acknowledged or spoken to for 15–20 minutes, so we sat there and sipped our water until we ultimately decided to leave.
What made this especially disappointing is that I’ve been here before and genuinely enjoyed it. I had hyped it up to my husband since this was his first time, so it was unfortunate for his introduction to be such a poor experience.
Valentine’s Day is special, and reservations should feel honored, especially when the restaurant isn’t at capacity.

Very expensive for what you get. I don't mind paying for good food but, $27.00 for an Italian style sausage, with a few noodles and some sauce? My wife had a pork chop that was tough as leather and had to pay $16.00 for a side of sweet potato. 6 of us, $330.00 with tip. 3 alcohol drinks, water and ice tea. Ridiculous!

Board and Batten in Mesa delivers an exceptional dining experience that hits all the right notes. From the first bite to the last, everything felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully executed.
The flat iron steak was outstanding…perfectly cooked, tender, and full of rich flavor. It paired incredibly well with the delicious mushrooms and creamy mashed potatoes, which were comforting, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. Every element on the plate worked together seamlessly, making the dish both satisfying and memorable.
And then came dessert, the salted caramel treat was absolutely amazing. Perfectly balanced between sweet and salty, it was indulgent without being overwhelming and the ideal way to end the meal.
With a warm, inviting atmosphere and food that truly shines, Board and Batten is a must-visit. Whether you’re there for a special occasion or a great night out, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression.
Just get there early because they close early! Side note: It can be a lil loud in the beautiful outside space if the wedding venue is in use but we loved it and thought the DJ brought a fun vibe.

Amazing food, accommodating service, and phenomenal atmosphere! My mother and I stopped here for dinner and we were not disappointed. Although the food took longer than expected, we both thought it was delicious. I doubt that the long turnaround on the food is a frequent problem considering how sincere and accommodating the staff were to resolve the minor hiccup. The prices are reasonable and the vibes are great. I will definitely be back, and would recommend to anybody who is looking for a nice evening out.
