Very good Venezuelan food! While much of it was unfamiliar to me, I tried and loved the plantains for the first time, and the rest of their food uses home-smoked meats and fine breads and doughs!

Amazing brunch. The Venezuelan pancakes with the cheese are the best!

The food was outstanding! Our table of four shared the simpler platter. There was plenty of food. Our server, “Nacho”, was quite attentive and seemed enthusiastic about sharing information about the different dishes. We were so excited to start trying the food that I forgot to take a picture of the sampler. It’s difficult to find parking in that area, but it’s well worth it if you want out outstanding food and outstanding service. The music was a bit loud for my taste, but it was still possible to have a conversation at the table. I had the Que jito drink and it was outstanding. I will definitely be back, and will recommend this restaurant to others.

Downtown Mesa has had a hard time sticking the landing, long the deserted city center of a suburban once voted the third most boring in the nation.
But, something wonderful has happened since COVID, where DT Mesa is suddenly cool. More and more food options anchor a growing craft brew scene.
I can safely say that Que Chevere is one of those anchors. Quality, well-marinated, melt in your mouth meats fill Arepas (imagine if a tacos was fluffier, or a Papuŝa was open) and large flat fries plantains. An absolute revelation in a Town where chain Mexican restaurants are often your only glimpse into Latin America.
My hope for their menu is that the expand their beer offerings to include more Venezuelan rarities or the craft beers being brewed next door.
Go here before your show at the MAC and then go next door for beers after the show!

We were wanting to try this restaurant for a while and are very glad we did! Our server, Brian, was fantastic. Helpful and informative about the menu and culture. Quaint inside with nice music that fits the vibe and is not too loud. We ordered empanadas (chicken and beef) and mini arepas. They arrived hot and delicious with two types of sauces for dipping, which were also very good. My only slightly negative comment is that there doesn't seem to be anything with more flavor and spice on the menu. I inquired about the shredded beef and chicken as was told that they were marinated, but they didn't taste like it. We plan on going back to try more items and the fried cheese.

Restaurantji Recommends
I really hate to leave a bad review, but I have to be honest about my experience. I ordered the Chévere Bowl because I could see all the seasonings on the shelf and thought I’d give it a try—especially since I love pernil. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed. The rice was quite bland, even though it was supposed to have gandules (there were barely any), and the pernil itself lacked seasoning and had no crunchy skin pieces at all, which was disappointing.
The tostone tasted old, though that wasn’t a huge deal. Still, for a $20 meal including a soda, I expected more flavor. If you enjoy well-seasoned Puerto Rican food, I’d recommend trying somewhere else. Maybe it’s seasoned more lightly to suit the Wall Street crowd, but it definitely missed the mark for me.

First Venezeulan restaurant I I been to! Really different...really good!
We had Arepa Pebellin - excellent! Comes with deep fried plantains instead good chips or fries - great choice.
Had to ask what an arepa was: Venezuelan stuffed sandwich - worth it!
We'll be back next time we're in downtown Mesa!
