This place was excellent! You definitely need a reservation, we used open table. They are closed on Sundays (except mother's day). We still waited for a table inside even though we had reservations for an outdoor table, they accommodated this. I had Brasato di Manzo, which was braised beef on risotto. It was fantastic. My husband didn't care for his veal parm, but it was a little overdone. Nice large portion. We also had 2 appetizers, the bruschetta and the meatballs....

Food was excellent. I had the halibut. My wife had a salad with salmon. My friend had the rigatoni special. BUT, the best part of the meal was the service. Angelica was professional, attentive, personable. Talked up the desserts and they were also excellent.

We moved from Mesa about 3 years ago. Sam & Luca used to be our favorite Italian Restaurant. We recently moved back to Mesa and were egar to try our favorite restaurants again.Something has changed at Sam & Luca's. The service was excellent, the atmosphere is the same but the food was not the same. There use to be a huge pot of sauce in the kitchen, on the stove. It wasn't there.
