The Risotto was horrible, the food was over salted, some things were great, some good, some bad. Drinks great. Service average. Decor and setting was outstanding. Overall solid B rating. But when you spend $120 a person it should all be outstanding.

After manager replying decided to try again. 2nd time would say B-. Drinks great, atmosphere outstanding, service average, food below average. Chicken, Burger, steak, Korean ribs, grilled veggies. All were below average except the veggie/humus plate. If I went here and never ordered food I might rate it 5 stars. The food is poorly cooked and substandard ingredients. All salt and oil with no skill in the kitchen. I really wanted to like this place, I just can’t. Again party of 4. Spent average $110 a person. Side note, from my seat I watched a cook make the Risotto for another customer and I now know why it was so bad.

I can begin to say enough about our experience, not only with the food but our service was amazingly entertaining. Bradley, made the experience 1000 times more memorable with his amazing personality and enthusiasm with not just our table but everyone he came in contact with. We will definitely be coming back to experience this sweet hidden gem in town.

I have visited this wonderful establishment several times, since discovering it a few months ago. I can honestly say, no one in the west valley is doing it like Barley & Smoke! I spent my 40th birthday here recently, and it was the perfect evening. The food presentation is top tier and the flavors aren’t overwhelming, but just right with every bite!

I have one recommendation, additional desserts offerings would be nice.

This place is amazing! After a rough week we decided to go out for dinner which we don’t get to do often. Only available seating was at the bar. At first I was hesitant booking dinner at the bar but I’m so glad I did. The conversation with everyone was so relaxing and watching the chef’s cook and the care they put into the dishes was mesmerizing. This was our second time here and we just love this place! Thank you to all the staff for giving us a chance to relax after a rough week. Thank you for the pen too! It made us smile and laugh and was a much needed break. We will be back!

Great to have this in the west valley. My wife and I went there this evening and everything was perfect. The service was great. The food was amazing. It’s takes a bit of time for the meal but that should be the case with a place like this. The drinks were delicious. The west valley needs a place like this to separate itself from the chain places. We will be back there’s no question

Was impressed with the management of this business and their response on how to handle a subpar situation.

Visited the other night with family for a few drinks in a cool environment because it’s the only speakeasy I can find on the west side of Phoenix.

Two out of four drinks were very good and the other two were bland.

We were not fans of the Mezcal special and espresso martini because they didn’t have much taste or complexity.

The Negroni and basil gin special were much better.

The environment was very cool looking and the service was hit or miss. We showed up an hour before they closed and it seemed like they were treating the situation as if we showed up 10 minutes before close.

However, when I reached out to management to share our experience, they took the constructive criticism and shared that they are wanting to improve based off of what I shared. Very respectful and professional.

Overall, I think this place has a lot of potential. 🥃

Had a fantastic dinner at Barley & Smoke! I ordered the half chicken, perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful, while my wife had the chef’s special: shrimp with risotto, which was equally delicious and beautifully plated. We shared a bottle of wine and a couple of martinis, and everything was spot on. The ambiance really added to the experience. Lighting was just right for a relaxed, upscale evening. The staff was genuinely friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Bao Buns quite disappointing. Asparagus was (EDIT: not liquid smoke) so smokey to the point that it felt more like a cigarette than an asparagus. The atmosphere feels like they ran out of budget half way through. Service was disappointing and shared with the bar. Special catch fish was great tho. Cocktails weren’t bad but not worth the cost.

My short rib was so chewy I only ate one bite? It was terrible. Was with a group so I didn't make a scene of it.

Unbelievable speakeasy that is located inside the brewery. Food and service is phenomenal including the vibe once inside. Constant tinkering with the food and drinks they are always looking to be creative.
Strongly recommend for west siders looking for an upscale restaurant that we normally have to travel for.

A Hidden Gem of Culinary Creativity and Warm Ambience

Stumbled upon Barley & Smoke and wow -- what a hidden gem. This place isn't just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey across cultures, textures, and perfectly balanced flavors.

We kicked off the evening with a WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye Old Fashioned -- smoky, strong, and beautifully stirred -- followed by a bold glass of Cult Cabernet Sauvignon, which paired perfectly with the richness of the meal.

To start, we had half a dozen oysters from British Columbia -- fresh, briny, and served with an elegant mignonette that let the natural flavor shine. Then came the pork belly, and let me just say: if you only order one thing, make it this. The cheddar jalapeño cornbread base, combined with hot honey and pickled Fresno chile, was a beautiful, unexpected dance of sweet heat and savory richness.

The diversity of the menu is what really stood out -- from Wagyu burgers to bao buns with bulgogi, to the Santa Maria Ribeye with rosemary potatoes, it's a mix of global inspiration executed with elevated finesse. Every dish we saw coming out of the kitchen looked like art.

The ambience? Refined but relaxed -- the kind of place where you feel equally at home sipping cocktails or settling into a long, thoughtful dinner.

I ended the evening with a crisp glass of Taonga Sauvignon Blanc, a local Arizona selection that added a refreshing, citrusy finish -- the perfect close to a layered, satisfying experience.

The service was beyond a hospitality moment!

Whether you're a foodie, cocktail enthusiast, or just want to impress someone with a surprise gem, Barley & Smoke absolutely delivers.

We forget to thank Megan for her guidance in our journey of flavor exploration. Thank you!
