I recently stopped by Cartel Roasting Co. in Phoenix and it quickly became one of my favorite coffee spots in the city. From the moment I walked in, I sensed a serious dedication to craft, beautifully roasted beans, precise pour-overs, and a warm, inviting space to relax or work. The baristas were friendly and took the time to talk about the bean origins without being pretentious. I tried their house brew as well as a pour-over single-origin, and the flavor really stood out, clear, balanced, rich. Whether I’m popping in for a quick caffeine fix or settling in with a laptop, this is now my go-to. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates really good coffee in Phoenix.

Cute little coffee shop with a walk-up order window and bar, perfect if you want to sit outside or grab something on the go. The vanilla latte was a bit on the bitter side but still pretty good overall. Service was fine, not super chatty like we are, but nothing to complain about. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in Phoenix!

Cartel never misses. The coffee is rich, bold, and clearly roasted with care. Service is top tier friendly, fast, and genuine. I grabbed a seat in the small outdoor area and loved how it struck a perfect balance: private enough to relax, but still wide open to the buzz of downtown Phoenix. A perfect spot to sip and soak in the city.

I’m sorry but why does everyone here always seem so miserable to be working here? I have to work in downtown every so often and have stopped here for coffee most of those times over the past few years. It seems that I’ve given this place way too many chances because there has not been a single time that I’ve been here where an employee has been in a good mood or at the very least, even smiled.
Pastries are good, but the coffee is always way too acidic. They always act like I’m inconveniencing them by ordering something. Whether it’s busy or dead, they all always act the same and my previous visit was the last straw for me. Especially when I always make an effort to show respect and be polite to them first because I know what it’s like working in the food service industry.
It’s too bad because this place has so much potential with it being so centrally located with their convenient ordering window and outdoor patio. But Press coffee around the corner never has any of these issues so I’ll be going to them from now on.

I started drinking coffee 10 years ago after visiting a coffee farm in Costa Rica, and since then, I’ve learned there’s a lot of bad coffee places out there. Cartel Roasting is not one of them!
Their vanilla latte was fantastic—everything was perfectly balanced to enhance the coffee’s natural flavor rather than cover it up with sugar and syrup. It was so good that I even went back to let them know how much I appreciated their roast.
If you’re staying in downtown Phoenix, give Cartel Roasting a try. You won’t regret it.

Seriously - does ANYBODY care about good customer service anymore? I ordered a latte with almond milk and the girl told me in a very cold manner that ‘we don’t have almond milk’ but she did not offer any alternatives. I asked for a sprinkle of cinnamon and was rudely informed ‘we don’t have cinnamon’. Again, no apologies, no suggestions - it seemed like she was hating life. But wait!! When a young guy came in and ordered, suddenly she became all smiles and sweetness. Location is good, I’ve been here a few times now but this was the last straw. I’m done, Press will get my business from now on.

It was my first time at this coffee shop. The barista was nice, but the coffee was VERY ordinary and boring. Also pricey in comparison to the size of their cups! I have heard so much about this place, and I wanted to try it, but it's not worth the hype! I don't think I'm going back again.
