Beer was great. Good selection of their own brews and those from other breweries. We loved the spruce tip from upslope and western winds from formation. We got the elote dip which was good but extremely smokey if you aren’t into that. The Brussel sprouts and duck fat fries were so delicious too! The atmosphere is really chill with plenty of places to sit and relax
New, clean, large, open space..
Great atmosphere. Wonderful help. Amazing beers.
Let’s get the bathroom figured out. Very gross. No soap.
Took a while for a server to come over but the food and atmosphere was 100% worth it - delicious salad and the brussel sprouts were outta this world. Mark, the proprietor, introduced himself and we talked a bit about the restaurant’s vibe - he’s made it a welcoming place to all. They have non-alcoholic and gluten free beers on tap. I will be back!
Ignored at the bar for a while, then they lost the flight card they had me fill out. Staff spitting into a trash can two feet from us.
Great big open place with lots of good beers and food.
Amanda is the best bartender and server i have ever seen! Whoever's in charge give her a raise!
Awful experience. After we got our food, she never checked on us even once no follow-up, no refills, nothing. We had already been waiting over an hour, and when we finally asked for the check, she acted mad and irritated, like we were doing something wrong by wanting to leave. To top it all off, when we paid, she charged us double what we actually owed. We tried calling the restaurant afterward to talk to someone about the mistake, and no one answered or bothered to get back to Completely unacceptable.
Detroit style pizza is amazing! Great patio section.
Formation Brewing is off to a rocky start; with lax and inexperienced service, and a weird water and weirder restroom situation, juxtaposed against some of the best Detroit style pizza I’ve ever had, Formation appears to still be forming their identity when it should’ve been ironed out earlier in the concept phase.
It was a Friday night at 7:30pm and only half the tables were taken. Granted, people are going out less because of how expensive everything is, but for a new chic spot on Roosevelt Row, the emptiness at this peak hour is striking. Our waitress couldn’t have cared less about our 7 top, and even straight up refused to refill our waters. Upon refilling my own water bottles (as she unkindly suggested we do), the bartender was appalled and said I didn’t have to do that, and that she would refill them for us. Very confusing, and annoying. It didn’t help that we had to beg and plead to order food and get our checks. Worst service I’ve experienced in a while, and the number one reason our group likely won’t go back.
It’s a shame, really, because the pizza was quite good, if not a little over the top. The kitchen needs to dial in their timing, as it took nearly ten minutes from the first food being delivered to the last, and the one appetizer didn’t come out at all until the entrees. I’ll chalk this up to them being new, but again, it wasn’t busy, and it wasn’t their first week, either.
Formation gives me the feeling that a bunch of frat bro venture capitalists got together and wanted to re-invent the brewery in an up and coming part of town, but their arrival is a smidge late and their concept half-baked. The keyed bathroom situation is a disgusting blunder: I don’t want to be touching some filthy key left by someone else who may or may not have washed their hands. The water refill situation is equally a disaster and needs to be addressed ASAP.
But the worst of it all is the service. Astonishingly poor. And that comes down to a lack of training or caring from the top. Maybe VC’s aren’t meant to open and run restaurants; maybe they should stick to other ways of enriching themselves.

Came for a lunch date with the wife and our pups. Great outdoor patio dog friendly establishment. The service was great, dog beef patties are available, and the food was out of this world. The Italian beef sandwich was juicy and flavorful. I had to ask what dressing was on the side salad and come to find out they make their own. I was hungry gry and didn't get an out of the kitchen shot but the presentation was as good as the flavor. Hospitality was top notch. I got to smell a pizza and now I know I have to come back to explore more.
The most chill place. Good beers, delicious food, and the nicest staff ever! 10/10 would recommend!
This brewery has beautiful open space, solid beer and yummy food. This place checks all the boxes for me and we will definitely be back. We got the cubano sandwich and cauliflower chorizo bowl and both were delicious!
The beer is great. The food is phenomenal! Atmosphere is beautiful and staff is very friendly.
