Great service, a lovely table on the patio, and delicious food. I had the classic Cobb Salad and added chicken. The chicken was sliced so neatly and was beautifully cooked.
Gertrude's at the Desert Botanical Gardens was a marvelous experience! The food was outstanding! The service impeccable! The atmosphere inviting! We had an appetizer, drinks and four different dishes. All were magnificent! They were a feast for the eyes and palate! We will come again!
New menu! I miss the old innovative menu. But the food is solid. My wife had the tacos and I had the polenta and street corn. Excellent service/ambiance remain.
Gertrude's never disappoints! The food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere can't be beat!
The food was outstanding- we shared our dinner of duck confit and tacos. Portions were generous. The pink mole was the star of the evening. Service by Jaden was professional and friendly. 5 star experience overall.
The “new” Gretrude's by Tarbell's food and service was outstanding. I had perfectly prepared and seasoned salmon. The Prickly Pear cocktail was so delicious, I had to order another. Menu options for everyone including a children's menu.
The corn elote appetizer was excellent. We had to ask for bread with it, otherwise it just came as a corn based dish like a dip. Very tasty but don't understand why it doesn't come with anything. The short rib tacos were fine. Lots of short rib piled in a corn tortilla, not much else to it. Pretty basic not much to the taco. Wife had the burger, it was fine, nothing that great, a little dry and overcooked. Again, not bad, but just not worth paying $20 plus dollars for. Service was great, waiter was very helpful and nice. Just not wowed by any of the food. A great place for ambience tho
Food fabulous, atmosphere is wonderful, service impeccable. We have been going to Gertrudes for years, this the first time under Tarbell's, nothing lost, menu is great, all sounded delicious, had a hard time choosing. The buenelos dessert, omg....they will have a fight if that is taken off the menu!!
Room for improvement, but potential for a good destination. Menu is much less interesting and appealing than under the previous management. It is more standard restaurant fare, with less culinary flair and local accent. My tacos were cold, one much more so than the other. The wait after placing my order was way longer than it used to be and less attention to refilling water etc. It's early in the new management regime, so hopefully they will start to get things more attuned to the client base of the DBG and adjust the menu and service to match.
Beautiful setting fun delicious drinks good service loved the avocado fries. My husband had a duck on tray and enjoyed it. I had the short rib and avocado risotto, which tasted about as weird as it sounds. The meat was good. The risotto just has a strange taste that I wasn't prepared for it wasn't bad just unexpected. We would return. Also, if you're walking around the botanical gardens, they had a beer and wine kiosk set up after five and it was really fantastic with the most delicious prickly pear cider.

This was a nice experience while visiting the Desert Botanical Gardens. Our food was good, but the service was questionable. We had reservations and were seated immediately, but we did not see our server for at least 10 minutes (no greeting, no water) and that was after we said something to the hostess. Apparently, there was a mixup in personnel. The avocado fries were outstanding!

Beautiful patio. The food was interesting and different, but could use a few tweaks to get it to 5 stars. Portions were on the smaller side.
We got a cocktail, duck confit, short rib risotto and bunuelos for dessert.
The duck was non traditional confit and crispy, but could have used some more seasoning, salt probably. Overall, good not great.
The short ribs were very tasty when paired with the avocado risotto. But the risotto itself was very cheese/avocado heavy and strong tasting and it would have been better if there was less risotto and they added another side to the dish to give another flavor profile to balance things.
The bunuelos I'd skip next time... it was basically a chip-like fried tortilla cut into wedges with cinnamon and sugar. The dipping chocolate was essentially just a watery hot chocolate, didn't stick to the chips well and didn't give it much of a chocolate flavor. Would have been better if they'd just gone with a churro and some thick hot chocolate instead.
The cocktail was pretty good.

Excellent service, subpar food quality for the price. Great avocado fries, mediocre burger, skip the French fries.
Nice to eat in the garden atmosphere with people milling around in circles?

Went for a special occasion and was very much looking forward to sharing this with my family. Made reservations a month in advance, requesting the patio, and sat indoors. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. Our server was attentive, responsive, and communicative. Lots of apologies for the many short-comings of a insufficiently staffed restaurant. However, we were there for the celebration and the food. We ordered the Nogales with Mole - and it shined like a star. Spectacular. So wonderful and special in fact that nothing else could stand up to how good it was and while, a week later, we are still talking about this dish - the rest of the meal pales in comparison.
The short story: While our service was outstanding, the kitchen was short-staffed, the bartender overloaded, the reservations were a mess, the food good, but not great. Overall, I loved being at the Desert Botanical Gardens and eating with my family BUT I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, and I wont be in any hurry to return.
