I had heard many wonderful things about this place and was hoping to find a new great spot. When I walked in I saw a large party and a few scattered 2 tops. The restaurant had a cozy look to it and It appeared that the customers were enjoying their food. Unfortunately, there was nothing that was bad and I would not eat, but we were underwhelmed. If you’re a local, it’s fine but I would not consider it a destination spot to eat. To be fair, I had a to go order and we might have had a better experience eating there. The staff was pleasant and attentive. However, when I got home with my 7 sandwiches (got a variety) they forgot 5 of the 7 sides. My understanding was that the sandwiches came with chips or potato salad. I opted for potato salad which was good. In any event, my rating is based on the fact that I thought it was average. I think 3.5 stars is realistic.
Kid-friendliness: There was a large party there the day I went with several kids.

It's been 20 years since I had a sandwich from here, and it was just as good today as back then! I miss the Pac-Man machine, though!!

1st time trying this place after hearing great things. Quality and service was outstanding. Was just a little disappointed in the Quantity of meat and bread was a little to toasted (burnt ends). Ordered the super Sicilian and Roast Beef.

recently visited this amazing pizza place and had a fantastic experience. The pizza was delicious, with the perfect blend of flavors and a crispy crust. What made the visit even more special was the
incredible girl making our pizza. She was friendly, attentive, and truly made our experience memorable. Can't wait to come back and enjoy another great meal here!

The sandwiches are always good, the bread I'd always toasted perfectly. Nice historic feel, with a quiet patio in the back.

First time visiting J P Mc Gurkee's Sandwich Shop. Food was great and I think the prices were comparable to other more national chains.
Inside is pretty dated but it's been around awhile and that's part of the charm.
Will for sure be coming back for lunch again!
Parking: Parking is the only negative, very small parking area

8/17/24 - Short version: there was not anything about this sammy shop that wowed either of us. The best part, IMHO, was the bread: it was a sesame seed toasted bun and it did not take the sandwiches hostages. Meaning there was not an overabundance of bread; it was less bread and more guts. It was not too far of a drive for us but there was nothing about the experience to warrant a return trip.
Longer version: the south parking lot is not much of a lot, maybe three or four spaces. The north lot is off the busier street and not where I would want to park my car.
There is an outside dining area, but it was dark, looked quite overgrown, and as if it had not been cleaned in a good long while. Not even sure if they allow seating back there - we def did not ask.
It has a nice old-feel interior decor. There were two gals behind the counter and only one other customer (it was about 4 o'clock, so early for dinner). The male customer conversed with us, asking if it was our first time there. He then proceeded to tell us how great it was.
Meh, not so much. The gal who took our order was polite. One thing we noticed but also failed to ask about was for pizza. Their online menu mentioned pizza but neither of us saw that option on the printed menus.
The potato salad side was creamy, the pickle spears were good, and both sandwiches were also.
Again, there was nothing about the experience that really stood out to make us feel like a return visit is needed. Been there, done that.
Parking: There is limited parking for the small strip mall on the north (Thomas Rd) side, as well as a few spots on the south side. Pick your poison: worry backing out with Thomas Rd drivers barreling down on you, or risk the south lot with five parking spots (deeply rutted and cracked).
