As a Chicago native of nearly 40 years, I know authentic Chicago food when I taste it—and Luke’s of Chicago, located at 1602 E. Indian School Rd. in Phoenix, delivers just that. Tucked into a modest shopping center right off the expressway, this small, no-frills spot instantly brings back memories of home.

Though the neighborhood has a mixed reputation, I’ve always felt completely safe visiting Luke’s. The cozy interior is lined with classic Chicago street signs, pictures of the Lakefront, and that familiar, comforting aroma of sizzling beef and onions.

Luke’s menu is packed with Chicago staples: juicy burgers with grilled onions, Chicago-style hot dogs with that signature bright green relish, hearty pizza puffs, and of course, the iconic Italian beef sandwich—my personal favorite. Everything is made fresh to order, and you can watch your food being prepared right in front of you.

Be warned, prices have risen with the times. My recent burger and fries (extra onions, of course) ran me about $20—but it was worth every bite. There are no combo meals or discounts, everything is à la carte, but the flavors and authenticity are unmatched.

If you're craving the taste, smell, and soul of Chicago, Luke’s of Chicago is a must-visit. Support a hometown gem—just come hungry and prepared to pay.

If anyone knows a grocery store that sells poppy seeds buns please let me know I miss them.

I don’t know what happened to this place. It used to be so good. I haven’t been there in a several years. I was driving by and figured I’d stop in for a bite. I ordered the double cheeseburger remembering how good it was. First bite, it definitely was NOT what I expected. It was nasty. Like someone used 409 to prevent it from sticking to the grill. Next time, I’ll just keep driving on by. My friend’s hotdog was delicious. Not sure what happened to my burger and in fairness I didn’t give them the chance to correct the issue.

Discovered Luke's a few months ago. Make it a point to return at least once a month. If you want a taste of Chicago's specialities this is the place to go.

$8.95 for a hotdog is highway robbery. I know costs are up but a Chicago dog is not worth no 8.95. The fries were COLD.

Skip this place. They are clearly just trying to make a buck.

This place is a gem in Phoenix! Right on the corner of 16st and Indian School some of the best beef n sausage sandwiches I’ve ever had. The Italian is also really good, hot peppers always! I hardly plan to go, but when I’m in the area i always try to stop by. Definitely recommend! Took a picture but i was already getting to it by the time i remembered 😂 only thing id say is pricing a bit much, i spent about 50 dollars for two subs, 1 drink and 1 order of fries. Again i understand we all gotta make money but it’s still a good amount. Still a fan and will continue to go

No flavor! The meat was dry and flavorless. The auju was bland and didnt do anything to help with the flavor. Toms BBQ has better italian beef sandwiches and thats sad to say a BBQ place has better italian beef then a place that is supposed to specialize in them.

I have ate at the Luke’s in Tucson where you can still see Luke standing behind the counter and their food is absolutely amazing. This place is not the original Lukes.Tucson Lukes is inviting and friendly and gives giant portions This place does neither. Overpriced for what you get And the owner is extremely and I mean extremely rude!!!

I used to frequent this place back in the day when I lived in PHX fulltime, I always thought it was the best place to get an authentic Italian beef like how they made it in Chicago, but ever since I started splitting my time between Phoenix and Flagstaff for the last few years I haven't been here as much. When I was in town recently I decided to stop by and take a trip down memory lane, the good news is the food was as excellent as I remember, the Italian beef and hot peppers hit the spot, not to mention the fries were cooked perfectly, 10/10 on food. Also, I thought the staff was nice, some of them have that Chicago nice-mean attitude where they sound aggressive but actually mean well, I'm used to that kind of thing. The bad news is the ambiance was a bit strange, they had Fox News on blast to the point where you couldn't ignore it (not sure if it was like this back in the day but I don't remember it being so). I'm not here to judge anyone's political beliefs at all, in fact, I will be visiting here again once I'm back down in the valley fulltime since they have the best Italian beef here in my opinion. However, blasting Fox just wasn't really creating a great environment, some customer started yelling about what was on the TV and yapping about politics, to me that's eh, I just want my food, it made me and my girlfriend uncomfortable so we're probably just getting to go from now on unfortunately.
