The server was lacking, forgetting drinks, food for the vegan order came out non- vegan and the kitchen needed to remake it, never offered refills on beverages. Pizza options were some creative choices, and tasty!

From the moment we stepped through the doors of Mellow Mushroom Phoenix, the energy was infectious—and our server, Jenna, was at the heart of it. My fiancé and I were greeted with warm smiles and a genuine “Welcome!” that immediately set the tone for an unforgettable evening. With its kaleidoscope of mural-clad walls, eclectic lighting fixtures, and cozy booths tucked beneath tie-dye canopies, the restaurant felt like an art installation you could both dine in and admire—BTW we were on mushrooms.

Jenna introduced herself within seconds of us being seated, offering crisp menus and a friendly rundown of the house specials. Her enthusiasm for Mellow Mushroom’s unique creations was palpable as she described the “Holy Shiitake Pie,” loaded with savory mushrooms and pesto drizzle, and the “Kosmic Karma,” a medley of red sauce, mozzarella, and Muenster that somehow tasted like sunshine on a plate. When we hesitated between the two, she didn’t just point and walk away—she leaned in, sharing her personal preference (Holy Shiitake for an earthy punch!), and even offered a half-and-half option so we could experience both without missing a beat.

While we waited for our pizza, Jenna charmed us with her knowledge of the drink menu. She recommended the “Funky Monkey,” a tropical concoction of rum, banana liqueur, and pineapple juice, assuring us it was the perfect companion to our pies. Her timing was impeccable: our drinks arrived just as we settled into our first sips, and she checked back moments later to ensure they were shaken, stirred, and sipped to perfection.

When our pizzas arrived, fresh from the wood-fired oven, they looked like edible masterpieces. The Holy Shiitake’s crust was blistered and pillowy, the pesto glistening like emerald ribbons across the golden cheese. Every bite was a revelation—each mushroom had been roasted to tender perfection, and the nutty pesto tied it all together in an explosion of umami. Meanwhile, the Kosmic Karma’s rich, savory sweetness was the perfect counterpoint, and we found ourselves alternating slices between the two, trying to decide which one we loved more.

Throughout the meal, Jenna wove through the dining room like a conductor leading a symphony, striking the perfect balance of attentive and unobtrusive. She refilled our drinks seamlessly, discreetly cleared empty plates, and her timing for the dessert menu drop was impeccable. When she suggested the “Chocolate Calavera” brownie—warm, fudgy, and drizzled with raspberry sauce—we knew we were in for something special. And, of course, she was right.

In short, if you find yourself in Phoenix and craving more than just pizza—if you want an experience that combines art, community, and exceptional hospitality—seek out Mellow Mushroom and ask for Jenna. She’ll guide you through the menu with expertise, brighten your evening with her warmth, and ensure you leave already dreaming of your next visit. Jenna didn’t just serve us dinner; she crafted an evening we won’t soon forget. Highly, highly recommended!

I’ve been coming here for probably 12-14 years and I actually can’t believe how dead this place is these days. Their pizza is fantastic and they have great drinks. The Loaded Potato pizza is undoubtedly my favorite menu item (as a vegetarian, I just order w/o bacon) and the spicy ranch is so good, it’s addicting. I hope they never take it off the menu, because I’ll always come back for it!

I used to love mellow mushroom, haven't been in years and was thrilled to have it. Unfortunately the appetizer was lacking flavor and then the steak sandwich had almost no flavor and the portion of full size sandwich was majority lettuce rather than veggies and meat. Server was okay.

Definitely won't be returning anytime soon

First time at Mellow Mushroom. Met a friend for Happy Hour at 3pm. When I walked in I notice how big it was, very open seating, and very clean. Bathroom was very clean as well. It was not busy at this time of day, but by 4 - 4:30, it was getting very busy. We sat at the bar area, Ryan greeted us and served us a couple of IPA's and two appetizers of our choice. Very friendly and great service. Really good appetizers; spinach artichoke dip and the pretzel bites with a hot spicy sauce....tasty!! Great service was also provided by: Brooke and Marleana!!! All 3 had great personalities, kept us smiling and laughing. A very enjoyable experience. I also met a few bar patrons, really friendly people. A real feel-good atmosphere!! I highly recommend and I'm be back!!

I love this place! I've been coming here for years for their pizza and craft beer. They always have a great selection of craft beers to choose from. I really like the buffalo chicken pizza and recently tried the merry prankster, which was tasty too if you want to avoid red sauce. They used to have this bomb giant mushroom appetizer that was filled with cheese, garlic, and sun-dried tomatoes, layered on a bed of spinach, drizzled with a balsamic glaze. I was sooooo sad when mellow mushroom took the giant mushroom off the menu. I really hope they bring it back!🙏 If you want a seat in the bar area, get there early because it fills up quickly as well as the patio when the weather is nice. I forgot to take a picture before devouring the food, but the presentation and taste have always been on point.
