Never been to Phoenix area before and wanted to find a very local authentic restaurant. We found it....Cocina Madrigal was exactly what we were looking for...We actually sat at the bar since there was a short wait for a table. I was here with a college friend who lived out of the state also. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. We had the combination Taco/Burros/Tamales/Enchiladas...Our gracious bartend/waitress suggested the perfect way they should be prepared. All the employees were very friendly and make you feel incredibly welcomed. Highly recommend and we will return when we are traveling through Phoenix..

there’s a reason this place is always packed—authentic Mexican food bursting with flavor and servers who are proud to work there and as enthusiastic about your experience as you are. our server was delightful, and the food was some of the best Mexican in Phoenix!

The first time I went to Cocina Madrigal it was right after it had been named best in the country by Yelp reviewers. The food was fantastic. The restaurant ambience was old school authentic Mexican- nothing fancy but that added to the experience. The food on a more recent visit was just so so and overpriced to boot. We were seated outside on a patio that seems like an afterthought. Right off of a main thoroughfare with lots of traffic noise and dirty and dusty. And when the food is just ok you tend to notice a less than ideal atmosphere a little more. You have to pay for the chips and salsa and frankly I couldn't have told the chips from a run of the mill bag variety. The enchiladas were just ok as were the rice and beans- we were definitely not served anything that would make me come back.

Amazing mushrooms enchiladas! Really tasty, I am vegetarian so I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The house guac was also delicious. We sat on the covered patio with the misters on and had an amazing meal. The service was also fantastic. I’ll be back whenever I am in town.

This was our first time in Phoenix and Cocina was an amazing find. The restaurant was really busy but the service was still amazing. Out waiter gave us some sugestions that were spot on. The food was some of the best Mexican cuisine we have ever had. The wild mushroom enchiladas and steak tacos are a must try. As for the margaritas, the selection of tequila and margaritas made this place perfect. We are here for 6 days and we have agreed to eat there again before we leave. Great job to the staff.

You would not even notice this restaurant unless you were looking for it or wondering why so many people were turning there but it has the best Mexican food I've had in the Phoenix area and that covers a lot of restaurants. The only reason it is not getting a five star review is because our service was, shall we say not the best, and my husband thought his chicken achiote burrito should have been spicier ( I agree). To start with, if you like a good alcoholic drink, the prickly pear margarita is wonderful. I had it with sugar while my husband had it with salt. We shared a fundito as an appetizer. Cannot say enough about how delicious it was, long after the tortillas were gone I ate the remaining cheese, mushrooms and peppers with a fork. As a main course I had the wild mushroom enchiladas and they were great. As stated earlier, my husband thought his chicken achiote burrito should have been spicier. We arrived early and by the time we left there was no space left in the parking lot and no tables available outside. I would not recommend eating inside as it was very noisy. Best meal we had in the week we were in Phoenix.

Yummy! I am not a fan of shrimp tacos, but I absolutely love the shrimp tacos from this restaurant. The steak tacos had a peculiar flavor, but they were good. I don't like mushrooms, but the Oaxaca fundido was super good. The guacamole portion was too small, in my opinion, but worth it. The Diablo pasta was enjoyable. The dessert portions were small too. I really like this place. I'll be back soon.

The surprise was the neighborhood and building. This is NOT a criticism- it was the surprise that this delicious restaurant is hidden away from the popular culture of Tempe. The food was fantastic. The wild mushroom enchiladas was worth finding this hideout. The fish tacos - oh my! I love the mango cole slaw, although it should be served with a side of a spicy kick. The menu of the tequila would be best if it had descriptions, so one would know what to order. It is a significant selection. Make the special trip to this place, and you will not be disappointed! Thank you Ashtyn!

This place is worth the visit. The servers are friendly and the food is delicious. You can mix and match the tacos and burritos to try all the different flavors. Very tasty and what a nice variety on the menu. Just be patient to find parking in the lot.

I travel to Phoenix for work several times a year and this place is so good that I ALWAYS visit at least once. Tonight was that visit and as usual it did not disappoint. SO GOOD!

What a great lunch. Mix and match tacos-they all seemed great. Was a bit crowded, but the service was tremendous.

This was a great find, based on Trip Advisor reviews. Hole in the wall with great food, attentive service, decently priced. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Phoenix and in the mood for Mexican!
