1120am on monday ordered the chicken bowl salad drink combo.
salad was good then took my bowl to go. first bite, charred chicken even thecteriyaki sauce could not overcome. decided to try 1 more bite before giviving up on it and same issue dry chicken with charged ends .
very disappointed in a long time favorite. Will avoid in the future and take it off my consistent and quick list.

My all time, last meal on earth, favorite restaurant! I grew up in Phoenix in the late ‘80’s/early ‘90’s and there were Tokyo Express restaurants all over the place. (I recall one on Indian School and one on Thomas)
I returned to Phoenix after moving away 30 plus years ago and had to find out if Tokyo Express was still around. After scouring the internet and making some phone calls, I found this location on Camelback.
The food is EXACTLY as delicious as I remembered, at very reasonable prices, prepared fresh and served by a very friendly staff. The entire restaurant brings back so many great childhood memories. I come here as often as possible. I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki bowl, California roll and side salad. Perfection!
THANK YOU!

The staff was nice but the teriyaki chicken wasn’t too good and the portions was unbelievably small. They handed me the bag with the food In it and I wondered if they missed added some stuff in

I've been going here since I was a kid with my parents. The taste has never changed you can count on the teriyaki chicken to be soft and tasty with the ginger salad. I will always come back

Fast, speedy service, to be expected from an express casual type of eatery. Prices are on par with comparable places in the area that serve the same type of food (Y*shi's) except it lacks the convenience of a drive-thru window. I ordered the katsu don bowl which by itself came out to be 7$ and some change. Placed the order over the phone (do NOT use the online ordering service as it not only adds 3 dollars to the price of the entrée items but an additional online service fee). This was my first time ordering from this place for a quick and easy lunch. Overall, I found the seasoning of the katsu to be overly salty, lacking any other type of umami flavor. The white rice served with it was drowned in sauce which contributed to the overall salt-heavy taste of the bowl. Would most likely not be enticed enough to go back.

Okay, I feel like I'm being generous with this 3-star rating. I also feel like I'm tiptoeing into this review. Tokyo Express has been in the Valley for a long time and now they're down to one location. It's not like I want a little place like this to go under, but I'm afraid, to a great extent, it kinda already has.The food isn't as good as it used to be. The servings aren't as large as they used to be. They charge 54¢ for a teensy ramekin of dressing or sauce, which is ridiculous. I rated each of the three separate categories at a 2 because the experience I had was definitely no higher than a 2, but I just feel like a two is a negative review and I'm not in a negative mood, so I bumped my overall to a three.I met my brother for lunch and we had a nice conversation, so it was fun, but this is not a fun place. This is a clean place. That's the extent of the ambiance. It's clean. The food was all but tasteless. I was really disappointed. I love Japanese food, but this was humdrum at best. It wasn't yucky! It just wasn't yummy. There was hardly any sauce on my teriyaki bowl and I hate being nickel-and-dimed over sauce. Seriously, it doesn't cost you 54¢ to make a tablespoon of that stuff. You shouldn't be charging for it at all. The place was empty at lunchtime, so I don't think I'm the only one noticing these changes. The service was lackadaisical. No smiles. No welcomes. Just slap down the food and walk away. It's not Covid. It's not the economy. It's definitely not the last of the loyal customers. It's the owner. They're doing themselves in. It's really disappointing.
Parking: Once you can find this place, tucked into the corner of a small strip plaza, you will probably have to go around by the dumpster to park. Also, they don't really have a sign, so you just have to know the place is there. Also maybe why it was empty at lunchtime.

It's gone downhill. If you want healthy food maybe go somewhere else. My rice was so greasy it was gross. I'm paying for it so I didn't want to waste it but now all that grease is making me regret it ?
