Chef Donald Hawk brings the Flavors! What good service and spot on attention 👏 Great place to be for delicious food and you must get to the Speakeasy Bar 1912 [side entrance]

My favorite meal in Phoenix. The menu is creative, ingredients are local and high quality. The pastries are as good as you can get in any city. The coffee is great, and the service is fantastic. Valentine is a gem.

This was a bucket list meal for my husband and I.

We ordered a number of different smaller bites because we wanted to try as many dishes as possible.

We ordered the castelveltrano olives with foie gras, bison tartare on tostada with trout roe, hiramasa crudo, yuca and potato pave, grilled oysters with piñon butter, chicken heart and bacon skewers and smoked bologna with pistachios.

Everything was amazing but the chicken heart skewers, grilled oysters, yuca/potato pave were highlights.

The menu is inventive and whimsical, using local ingredients and absolutely nailing the flavor combinations.

We loved their cocktail menu too. Their AZ Lemon Drop and Jungle Bird cocktails were delicious.

The mid-century building is adorable and adds a lot of character.

Chef Donald and his team really knocked it out of the park. I would rate this as one of the top 10 restaurants in the Phoenix area, probably even top 5.

I can't wait to go back!

Dietary restrictions: I'm gluten free and there were plenty of options. Worth asking which items are gluten free since it's not labeled on the menu.

Parking: There is a parking lot but it's small.

Kid-friendliness: I don't recommend this as a kid-friendly restaurant.

Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level, very accessible

Met expectations for date night.

Booked for two on Resy - Amex dining credit.

Got there quite a bit early but they were able to accommodate giving we had booked window counter seating - so facing the street outside - it was quite fun to people watch! The restaurant has a cool vibe - it was a nice Spring evening so there were tables occupied on the patio in front of the restaurant and it was open seating with music playing - nice eclectic feel and very inviting.

Drinks - we ordered an espresso martini (pretty good) and a Jungle Bird (also good)

Food -
- Fois gras olives: okay - the fois gras makes the olives even more salty and rich - they tried to counterbalance with sugar on the exterior of the olives…I thought they were okay, my partner didn’t like them
- Grilled octopus - very good - octopus cooked perfectly, very tender, the sauce was very complimentary - would order again
- Charred cauliflower - the waitress recommended a half a portion given how much food we had ordered - I wish we had ordered a full one - it was charred perfectly and tahini and harissa are perfect with how they prepared it. Would order again.
- Two wash ranch chicken - two juicy and perfectly cooked chicken thighs - yummy
- Ribs w/ chayote - they were okay - nothing special
- Elote pasta - this was one of their recommended dishes - it was good pasta, but maybe a bit on the salty and cheesy side for me. It was quite rich and I only ate a couple of servings and packed the rest to go.

Dessert was the sticky toffee pudding….served in a very sweet sauce (doesn’t need it IMO)

Overall - great dinner, good efficient service, and a nice vibe. Worked out to $130/pp with tip, so not cheap. Would come here again. I noticed they also do breakfast and brunch…maybe interested in trying that as well.

We will not be back after our experience. The food was fine. The pretzel was the only item we got that we thoroughly enjoyed. So much so that we ordered another one. That's where the good stops. We felt incredibly rushed from the moment we sat down. The server reminded us multiple times that we only had 1.5 hours for our reservation. I can understand once, but it was at various points throughout our meal and rudely interjected. Meh food and crappy service...definitely a pass!

Had their burger. It was served with tatortots. The burger patties were thin. There were two of them They were overcooked and rubbery. The rest of the burger toppings were a hot mess. I spent over $30,00 with tip. Their ice tea was good. I have had their food on 4 other occasions and it has been hit or miss

I had the worst experience at valentine I went for coffee and pastries and that's what I ordered and the waitress kept coming back asking if I wanted to order anything else then proceeded to recommend other coffee shops I can go to to study? I guess having my laptop out bothered her. Never coming back
